With the global K-Culture wave, interest in Seoul's Public Hanok is increasing. This year, a variety of programs including exhibitions, performances, and experiences will be available.
The highlight festivals include the Public Hanok Night Market (May) and Seoul Hanok Week (October), along with seasonal experience programs like 'Bukchon Dorak', traditional craft one-day classes, and small-scale performances in Hanok, ensuring a rich schedule throughout the year.
What programs will be available at Seoul's Public Hanok?
Seoul Public Hanok will operate festival, craft, performance, and experiential programs year-round in 2026. The main facility, Bukchon Cultural Center, will host the seasonal experience program 'Bukchon Dorak'.
Starting with Lunar New Year (February 14-15), followed by Dano (June), Chuseok (September), and Dongji (December), traditional cultural experiences will align with seasonal festivities.
During 'Bukchon Dorak Lunar New Year', there will be a special exhibition themed around traditional rituals, along with hands-on activities such as making traditional lucky bags, keychains, and decorative paper, allowing families to participate together.
Following that, programs relating to seasonal foods and traditional games will be offered during Dano, Chuseok, and Dongji.
When will the main festivals 'Public Hanok Night Market' and 'Seoul Hanok Week' take place?
The representative festivals for the first and second halves of the year are 'Public Hanok Night Market' and 'Seoul Hanok Week'. The 'Public Hanok Night Market' will be held in the fourth week of May, marking its third edition this year.
This event opens the Public Hanok from morning until night, allowing visitors to experience the tranquil ambiance of Hanok in a different light. Last year, 15,000 people enjoyed the festival.
'Seoul Hanok Week' is planned for October, featuring diverse exhibitions and experiential programs in collaboration with various K-Living platforms, expanding the public Hanok area into a festive space.
How will traditional craft and performance programs be organized?
The K-content craze will extend into crafts. At Seochon Hong Geon-ik House, the 'Craft Walk' program will run three times a month from February to November, allowing participants to engage in traditional crafts linked to daily life.
At the Bukchon Traditional Craft Experience Center, traditional craft experiences will be available year-round, including making traditional ornaments and decorative items.
Moreover, the wooden floors and courtyards of Hanok will serve as performance stages. Hong Geon-ik House will host 'Pilun-dong Concerts' once a month in April-May and September-October, showcasing classical and traditional music performances.
Wellness programs and visitor services at Hanok will offer relaxation time for both body and mind.
From April to November, Baeryeom House will host monthly yoga classes, including sessions for parents and babies, as well as sound therapy yoga.
Additionally, 'Daily Library' at Baeryeom House and 'Star Library' at Hong Geon-ik House provide quiet spaces for reading and reflection.
With expanded visitor services at Bukchon Lounge and Seochon Lounge, complimentary luggage storage will be available until night, along with programs for foreigners and tea ceremony experiences for local students.
Seochon Lounge will focus on tea experiences and seasonal food culture workshops, as well as participatory programs linked to K-Living exhibitions.
