Although I thought the heat had subsided,
the weather is still quite hot.
I want to share a special performance that washed away the heat and the Sunday evening blues with music and stories.

"Experience Opera Through Stories and Songs"
August 23, 2026 (Sunday) at 7 PM, Solgaram Art Hall
I made a reservation in advance,
and arrived a bit early to collect my ticket after confirming my reservation.
Entry began 30 minutes before the performance,
and seating was on a first-come, first-served basis.
Opera is a performing art that combines theater and music.
Instead of speaking lines, the actors convey stories through song,
while the orchestra, stage, costumes, and acting come together to create a drama.
Opera originated in Italy about 400 years ago.
It encompasses various themes such as love, sacrifice, family, and laughter.
This performance allowed us to understand the opera first through stories,
followed by live performances of representative arias.
The narrator introduced the plot and characters in a fun and accessible way,
explaining who sings what and the meaning behind it,
which made it enjoyable and engaging.
Familiar melodies became even more interesting when we learned about their meanings and backgrounds.
The nine-member chamber ensemble brought the opera atmosphere to life,
and the singers communicated well with the audience through their dazzling costumes and wit,
making the performance even more enjoyable.
Most operas are named after the main character.
When Hoffmann sang 'The Doll Song',
the soprano appeared dressed like a doll,
and a young audience member turned the key for her.
Thanks to that young audience member's performance,
the show was fresh and fun.
The singing and costumes of the performers were top-notch!
After the song, I couldn't help but shout 'Brava!'
I learned that 'Bravo' is for male performers,
'Brava' is for female performers,
and 'Bravi' is for mixed groups.
During the performance of 'Kiss Me, My Love',
the singer danced beautifully and even distributed flowers to the audience.
It was a stage for everyone to enjoy.
As the chamber music began,
the singer surprised us with a sudden entrance from the back of the audience,
which was quite a shock,
and singing right next to us was moving, prompting me to shout 'Bravo!' enthusiastically.
We lost track of time, and the encore was delightful.
Without percussion, the audience clapped and moved their feet to create rhythm,
enjoying the performance with great enthusiasm.
This performance broke the perception that opera is difficult,
and sharing the background of the work and the composer made it very informative.
I found a newfound interest in opera!
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to experience such a high-quality performance for free.
Solgaram Art Hall hosts a variety of cultural performances including classical music, opera, theater, and dance.
With excellent acoustics, it is suitable for classical and chamber music performances.
Being close to the stage enhances the experience.
