Celebrating World Environment Day in Paju

Today's actions shape tomorrow's Earth!
π Celebrating the 31st World Environment Day π
Hello!
Every year, June 5th is World Environment Day.
Last weekend, various commemorative events were held at the Paju Environmental Center Eco-On and Unjeong Health Park to celebrate this day!
Pre-Event for World Environment Day
As part of the pre-event, a screening of the environmental documentary 'Choices for Rhinos' took place.
This documentary highlighted the threats faced by black rhinos from poachers and the dedication of individuals working to protect biodiversity.
It was an enlightening moment to learn about the importance of ecosystem and environmental protection.
On the Day of World Environment Day
On the actual day, a plogging event took place around Unjeong Lake Park.
Walking with citizens who care about the environment was a time to protect our planet.
There was also a special program to find 'very special trash'.
Children accompanied by their parents picked up litter from every corner.
Isn't it wonderful to have a park where even snails can live safely?
The awards ceremony for 'very special trash' followed.
We were surprised to see various items like beverage bottles, disposable cups, plastic bags, and even broken umbrellas and water playboards discarded in the park.
Celebration Event for World Environment Day
Despite the rainy weather, many citizens participated with a heart for the environment.
The event started with a pre-performance by kindergarten children and an award ceremony for those who contributed to environmental efforts.
Booth Exploration
Over 20 environmental organizations from Paju participated, focusing on climate crisis, ecology, resource recycling, environmental education, welfare, and citizen activities.
They shared the value of the environment with citizens.
It was an opportunity to confirm that environmental protection can be easy and enjoyable in daily life.
The Paju Environmental Movement Alliance conveyed a message to protect the Earth from complex crises like the Imjin River wetlands protection, climate crisis, and ecological crisis.
There were booths focused on the importance of endangered species and biodiversity, showcasing the benefits nature provides us.
A booth for making recycled buttons and another for drawing the Earth with fingertips were also present.
The Green Ribbon booth educated participants on why paper cups are not recycled and promoted reducing single-use items.
Various toys were made from discarded paper cups, and methods for wrapping candies were demonstrated.
The Paju Youth Foundation showcased eco-friendly dish scrubbers.
There were also booths for making keychains from discarded cans and the 'Dakkji Project'.
The booth stamp tour and crossword puzzles attracted much interest from citizens.
Participants received kitchen towels made from handmade materials as gifts, adding to the excitement.
To encourage citizens' environmental practices, information on participating in 'Climate Companion Income' was also provided.
My pledge for the Earth, stamp my hand!
The celebration event resonated deeply with the participating citizens.
Actions like 'using less detergent', 'properly recycling', 'using bicycles instead of cars', 'turning off unused lights', 'avoiding single-use items', and 'reducing plastic use' are all ways we can protect the environment for future generations.
The actions we can take for the Earth are more diverse and easier than we think.
Small actions can accumulate and lead to significant changes beyond our imagination.
We are wonderful citizens taking action for the Earth!
Today's actions shape tomorrow's Earth. How about starting with small actions together?
