Honoring the scholarship and virtues of Teacher Woo-gye Seong-hon

✨ Woo-gye Cultural Festival ✨

On May 23, the Woo-gye Cultural Festival was held at the Woo-gye Shrine in Paju, commemorating the achievements of the renowned scholar from the mid-Joseon period.

This meaningful event included a memorial ceremony, cultural performances, and exhibition programs, reflecting on the historical and cultural values that Paju holds dear.

As we recall the wisdom and teachings of our ancestors, we hope that Paju's proud cultural heritage will continue to be cherished and passed down to many.

The grand procession of the Silver Wind Orchestra beautifully opened the festival.

Operated by the Paju Cultural Center, the Silver Wind Orchestra revitalizes the lives of seniors through the education of traditional wind music, while also preserving our cultural heritage.

Despite the gentle spring rain, the festival venue was filled with the enthusiasm of citizens who came to celebrate.

Participants dressed in traditional attire created a special atmosphere, reminiscent of a time travel to the Joseon era.

The pre-ceremony performances featured a congratulatory concert by the Woo-gye Choir, beautifully reinterpreting the scholarly spirit and poems of Teacher Woo-gye.

This heartfelt performance resonated with the attendees, offering warmth and inspiration.

In the afternoon, traditional music performances, including Korean folk songs, deepened the significance of the Woo-gye Cultural Festival.

The festival also included the Cheongsong Calligraphy Competition and the Woo-gye Poetry Contest, where awards were presented to outstanding participants.

The central memorial ceremony took place on a special stage in front of the Icheonmun at the Woo-gye Shrine.

With great respect for Teacher Woo-gye's spirit, the ceremony was conducted in accordance with ancient Confucian traditions, featuring a solemn sequence of rites.

This year, the gentle melodies of traditional instruments captivated many attendees, providing a profound emotional experience.

The festival also featured various hands-on programs, which were very popular.

Among them, the traditional tea and snacks tasting corner was particularly favored, offering a warm space for learning and sharing about our cultural heritage.

Other activities included writing family mottos, making traditional scented sachets, and experiencing the touch of history through rubbings.

The Woo-gye Memorial Hall, located at the site of the festival, honors Teacher Woo-gye's integrity and scholarly achievements.

It is a great place to explore his life and thoughts.
