As time is scattered, it often converges into moments that share a brief breath. The Gongju Cultural Arts Village Residency has been a place that embraces such 'moments of intersection,' where the traces of this intersection reveal themselves like a constellation.
The time spent together was not long, yet each artist left a unique trajectory reflective of their days there. The experiences of focused work, encounters with the local landscape, the quiet air of dawn, and conversations surrounding each other's work may appear as fragmented pieces, but they gradually connect like stars forming a constellation. Each artist, with their different backgrounds, mediums, and inquiries, has contributed to a narrative structure that coexists for a moment.
This coexistence does not merely signify a juxtaposition of outcomes. It is formed through the points where the flow of work intersects, the subtle influences exchanged between each other's senses, and the quiet moments where individual thoughts overlap. During the residency, while focusing on their own work, the artists became naturally aware of others' creations due to their physical and emotional proximity. Thus, this exhibition can be viewed as a 'trace of coexistence' that shares a profound resonance while maintaining each artist's uniqueness.
The locality of Gongju also forms an invisible axis of this exhibition. The city, imbued with the remnants of ancient times, the landscape surrounded by mountains and rivers, the everyday rhythms of local residents, and the echoes of Baekje—all of these have permeated the artists' senses, leaving subtle traces. These traces manifest as color temperatures in some works, the physical properties of objects in others, and perceptions of time in yet others. The experience of residing in the residency does not instantly transform the work but creates possibilities that gradually take shape, encapsulating the 'potential for change.'
We invite you to join us for this final exhibition that encapsulates the year of our resident artists.
