Delicious Dining in Daejeon: A Visit to Nongmin Tteukgeun
In the city of Daejeon, home to Seongsimdang,
if you're looking for a tasty restaurant after visiting Seongsimdang,
I highly recommend Nongmin Tteukgeun!!!
Before indulging in sweet and rich cake desserts,
make sure to enjoy some spicy bone barbecue first.
Nongmin Tteukgeun is located just a 7-minute walk from Seongsimdang Boutique.
While waiting for cake at Seongsimdang Boutique,
it's a great idea for one person in your group to head to Nongmin Tteukgeun to wait!
On a Saturday at 10:15 AM, there were already 31 groups ahead...
Since it's only a 7-minute walk from Seongsimdang Cake Boutique,
you can place your order, buy the cake,
store the bread in the bread locker, and leisurely head to the bone barbecue place.
Nongmin Tteukgeun has a lively yet clean interior.
Due to the nature of bone barbecue, it's not a quiet place,
with most tables typically having a bottle of soju.
I almost ordered one myself!
I'm proud I resisted...
Many places that serve bone barbecue are often old and neglect cleanliness,
but this place is impeccably managed!!!
It gets my seal of approval as a picky eater.
For our order, we got a medium spicy bone barbecue and self-serve rice balls.
As bone barbecue lovers, we couldn't resist ordering two rice balls.
The spice level is adjustable, and we ordered it spicy, which was pleasantly spicy!
I was tempted to order a soup, and I shed a tear,
but they provided us with a tasting soup! Yay~
The self-serve rice balls came out first,
but don't eat them first! They're so delicious that you'll fill up before the barbecue arrives.
Finally, the bone barbecue and tasting soup arrived!
The presentation was impressive...
Just looking at it makes my mouth water.
Shouldn't I order drinks instead of rice with this?
If Shin Dong-gung's bone barbecue is known for its spicy and thick seasoning,
Nongmin Tteukgeun features a seasoning similar to Zico's or spicy chicken sauce!
With some charred bits, it has a nice smoky flavor,
and the seasoning pairs perfectly with the rice balls.
It's not a painful burst of spiciness,
but a gradual build-up!
At first, I thought it was easy, but after a few bites, I found myself sweating.
The tasting soup was also delicious,
light on the palate, making it easy to keep reaching for it.
The essence of bone barbecue is actually in the meat clinging to the bones,
and the meat here is tender and easy to pull off with gloves.
There are also chewy parts throughout, adding to the delightful texture.
When deciding between small, medium, or large portions,
it's better to have leftovers than to run short.
For those unsure about portion sizes,
based on our experience as three hearty eaters,
if you don’t want leftovers, go for small; if you don’t mind, medium is the way to go.
Even though we left two bones behind,
I would still order medium again if I return... because it was that good!
