Yeongdong, Chungbuk Province

5 Places to Visit

September 10, 2025

Hello! For those planning a trip to Yeongdong, Chungbuk, I've compiled a list of 5 must-visit spots.

Yeongdong is renowned for its beautiful mountain ranges of the Baekdu-daegan, clear valleys, and as the home of wine and traditional Korean music (Gugak). From attractions that blend nature and history to unique hands-on tourist destinations, there's a diverse range of experiences to enjoy, making it perfect for family trips.

1. Wollyubong Hancheon Palgyeong: Where the Moonlight Lingers

Located 2km northwest of Hwanggan in Yeongdong, Wollyubong is a famous mountain meaning 'peak where the moon lingers'.

Beneath its towering cliffs, which reach an altitude of 400.7m, flows the clear waters of the Chogangcheon Stream, creating a breathtaking scenery.

The scenery here isn't just about one mountain; it consists of eight scenic views known as Hancheon Palgyeong.

Sagunbong, Sanyangbyeok, Yongyondae, Naengcheonjeong, Hwawonak, Cheonghakkul, Beopjonam, and Wollyubong come together to unfold like a scene from the poems and paintings of ancient scholars.

In spring, azaleas and rhododendrons paint the mountain red, while autumn is bustling with travelers enjoying the fall foliage and trekking along the trails.

It's also worth visiting Hancheonjeongsa, where the scholar Song Si-yeol stayed and studied, and the Yeongdong Song Woo-am Monument, which commemorates him.

Travel Tip: It's beautiful any time of year, but especially don't miss the moonlit autumn nights.

Open : All year round

Admission : Free

Amazing view

2. Yeongdong Wine Tunnel: A Harmony of Wine and Gugak

Located in Yeongdong-eup, Yeongdong-gun, Chungbuk, the Wine Tunnel is Korea's only wine aging tunnel.

Yeongdong has been a major grape-producing area since ancient times, with over 35 wineries, establishing itself as the center of Korean wine culture.

Especially, the Korea Wine Festival and the Nangye Gugak Festival, which are held every fall, and the World Gugak Expo in 2025 are held together.

It is the best place to enjoy culture and taste at the same time. The inside of the tunnel maintains a cool temperature of 15-20 degrees Celsius throughout the year, making it a popular summer retreat. With unique experiences such as wine tasting, wine ice cream, and wine foot baths, it is also recommended as a couple's trip.

3. Okgye Waterfall: Where Mist Dances

Located in the Cheonmosan Valley in Simcheon-myeon, Yeongdong, Okgye Waterfall is also called 'Bakyeon Falls' by locals.

The cascade from a 20m high cliff creates a spectacle with the valley, and poets and writers have been visiting here for a long time.

It is also famous as a place frequently visited by Nangye Park Yeon, who is known as the father of Korean traditional music.

The clear water falling from the waterfall flows along the Cheonmosan Valley, and the connecting mountain reservoir and trails are good for walking.

In summer, you can feel healing in nature with the cool sound of water, and the waterfall scenery harmonized with autumn leaves is also fascinating.

Vehicle access is possible up to the parking lot.

It's easy to visit.

Hours: Always open

Admission: Free

Recommended Course: Hoseoru → Nangyesa → Sedeoksa → Okgye Waterfall (3km, about 40 minutes)

Happy moment

4. Chupungnyeong Station Water Tower Park: A Space Like a Time Travel

The Chupungnyeong Station Water Tower, built in 1939, was a facility built to supply water to steam locomotives at the time.

It is the only remaining water tower with a square plan structure.

Inside, water supply facilities such as old pumps and ponds are preserved as they are.

As a space where you can see traces of modern railway history, it is a good place for railway enthusiasts as well as children to experience history.

Why not take a walk with the open scenery of Chupungnyeong and take a time trip to the past for a while?

It is a good park to visit with children.

5. Banyasa Temple: A Sacred Buddhist Site

Lastly, I would like to introduce Banyasa Temple, located in Hwanggan-myeon, Yeongdong.

The story is that it was founded by Monk Sangwon in 720, and after Sejo cured his skin disease, he wrote it in his own handwriting.

There is a historical background of giving the sign 'Banya'.

Banyasa Temple has a three-story stone pagoda, Treasure No. 1371, and local cultural heritage stupas and Buddha statues remaining.

The Geungnakjeon and Munsujeon still attract many Buddhists and travelers.

In particular, the Baekdudaegan Baekhwasan mountain range wraps around Banyasa Temple in front to form a Taegeuk pattern.

Munsukjeon is located on a 100m cliff and shows a magnificent view.

In addition, the 300m rock slope behind the temple has the shape of a tiger with its tail raised, making it a popular photo zone.

Temple stays are also operated here, so you can calm your mind in the silence of a deep mountain temple.

Special moment

In conclusion

Today, I introduced 5 places to visit in Yeongdong, Chungbuk.

Yeongdong, where nature, history, and culture are combined, is a travel destination full of charm in all four seasons.

I recommend you to leave with your family or lover on weekends or holidays.
