Top 4 Places to Visit in Gochang, Jeonbuk

Gochang is a great place for leisurely walks and enjoying beautiful flowers.
While it's mostly known for the 'Cheongbori Fields', there are plenty of other attractions to explore.
Today, I’ll introduce a convenient day trip that allows you to experience Gochang to some extent.
Cheongbori Fields (Sangha Farm)
- Operating Hours: 8:30 AM - 6:30 PM
- Entrance Fee: 3,000 KRW
- Parking Fee: 10,000 KRW (refundable in local currency)
- Photo Taken: April 2023
The Cheongbori Fields are nearing the end of their festival season, which runs until May 10 this year. If you're planning a day trip, I highly recommend stopping by to admire the lush green fields.
The charm of the Cheongbori Fields Festival lies in the vibrant yellows and calming greens. Originally famous from the drama 'Goblin', it has recently gained fame as a filming location for the drama 'Lovers'.
The expansive fields are stunning and make for a perfect photo backdrop. The canola flower theme area is particularly popular, adding vibrant colors to your photos. If you haven't visited yet, aiming for the last train is a great option.
Gochang Myeonok Main Branch
- Operating Hours: 11 AM - 8 PM
- Break Time: 3 PM - 5 PM
- Last Order: 7:30 PM
- Signature Dishes: Cold Noodles, Galbitang
- Photo Taken: May 2026
The parking area is divided into two spots. You can find a small parking lot up the hill, but due to long wait times, I recommend parking for free at the Gochang Sports Town parking lot across the street.
It might be confusing for first-time visitors, as the building appears quite different from the front. Upon walking up the hill, you’ll find the entrance, which was already bustling with people even on a weekday.
The restaurant has many tables, and upon entering, you can inform the staff of your party size for guidance.
There is also a self-service bar, offering basic side dishes like radish kimchi, which I found quite tasty. Additional side dishes can be taken from the self-service area right in front of the entrance.
Once seated, you can place individual orders through a kiosk. The menu includes 'Bulgogi Cold Noodles', which initially confused me as I thought it meant cold noodles topped with bulgogi, but it actually consists of cold noodles with pork marinated in bulgogi sauce.
We ordered the 'Galbitang' as it was recommended on the menu. While it was tasty, the portion size was a bit disappointing for an adult male. I had imagined a large bowl overflowing with galbitang.
Feeling still hungry, I ordered 'Mul Naengmyeon' (cold noodles). It came with distinctly flavored meat. Personally, I would recommend opting for 'Naengmyeon' over 'Galbitang' at Gochang Myeonok, as I found it to be more delicious.
Gochang Wildflower Cafe Arboretum
- Operating Hours: 10 AM - 6 PM
- Last Order: 5:20 PM
- Features: Converted from a closed school, pet-friendly
- Photo Taken: May 2026
The parking lot is spacious and pleasant, and it seems to be expanding with ongoing construction.
Upon entering, the Gochang Wildflower Cafe Arboretum reveals its charm. The entrance, likely from the old school, is surrounded by green grass.
A large garden welcomes you, with a refreshing fountain at the center. The water flowing with the breeze creates delightful scenes, enhanced by a spinning waterwheel sculpture next to the fountain.
The interior retains elements of the old school, with fun door handles dividing the space. Due to an unexpected influx of visitors, new areas were opened for photo opportunities.
Ordering drinks and pastries at the kiosk was straightforward. The beverages were delicious, and I appreciated the spacious layout and well-maintained landscaping.
With the expansive area, exploring is enjoyable, especially since it's a pet-friendly cafe where dogs can play on the lawn.
Seonunsa Temple
- Operating Hours: 6 AM - 7 PM
- Entrance Parking Fee: 2,000 KRW
- Entrance Fee: Free
- Features: Diverse Scenery
- Photo Taken: September 2024
Seonunsa Temple is a bit of a walk from the entrance, but the path and scenery are beautiful. In September, you can see the stunning red 'Flowering Quince' in full bloom.
Ending a day trip with the tranquility of a temple and a leisurely walk brings a sense of calm. The gentle sounds of the temple, the fragrant air, and the fresh mountain breeze provide a perfect conclusion to your journey.
In addition to these spots, there are various other attractions like the 'Gochang Dolmen Site' and 'Gochang Eupseong'. If you're interested in history and cultural heritage, consider including these in your travel plans.
