Reading Challenge at Gyeonggi Provincial Library

[By Choi Jun-hyuk]
Every fourth Saturday of the month,
Join the reading concentration time at Gyeonggi Provincial Library.
The 'Reading with Your Bottom' Challenge at Gyeonggi Provincial Library
A challenge to rediscover the joy of reading
In today's world, where short-form content is consumed rapidly
and smartphones are ubiquitous,
have you ever truly focused on a single book?
As time spent on digital devices increases,
the time spent reading books has diminished.
Pay attention to the new reading project
launched by Gyeonggi Provincial Library.
Turn off digital devices and focus solely on reading! The 'Reading with Your Bottom' Challenge
The rules of the 'Reading with Your Bottom' Challenge
The program, with its fun name,
is the 'Reading with Your Bottom' Challenge.
This program takes place every fourth Saturday
from 1 PM to 3 PM
on the 3rd floor camping zone and Gyeonggi Book Trail.
There are just three rules:
✅ No digital devices,
✅ No distractions,
✅ Focus solely on reading.
Participants will have dedicated time to focus on books in the 'Reading Zone'.
If you want to take a break while reading,
you can move to the 'Distraction Zone',
and if you want to leave your own reading time and feedback,
you can utilize the 'Record Zone'.
This impressive setup allows for a focus on reading
while reducing the pressure of having to read only.
A special challenge on June 27
On June 27, a more meaningful program will be held.
In collaboration with Kim Ji-eun, head of the independent publisher 'Sososa',
the 'Silent Reading Club' will host a challenge
where participants read their own books quietly together.
Recently, the culture of gathering to read individual books,
like reading parties or silent reading groups,
has gained attention abroad,
making this a great opportunity to experience a new way of reading.
Benefits for participants of the 'Reading with Your Bottom' Challenge
Participants will receive reading points
from the Gyeonggi reading culture project 'Read with 1,000 Books',
and those who participate consistently for five times or more
will also receive reading goods.
For residents wanting to develop a consistent reading habit,
this challenge will provide a sense of achievement.
If you find it hard to visit the library,
the library will come closer to your daily life.
Gyeonggi Provincial Library, along with 31 public libraries in the province,
will officially launch the 'Reading On: Gyeonggi Project'
starting in the second half of the year.
This project aims to extend reading activities beyond the library
to public spaces like squares, parks, and streets,
making books more accessible.
Various programs will be offered throughout the year,
including 'Popup Libraries', 'Book Busking', 'Reading Camps',
and 'Reading Coaching' for children.
This initiative will create opportunities for residents
to naturally engage with books during commutes and weekend strolls,
transforming libraries into cultural hubs
that connect people and ideas.
Take a moment to set aside your smartphone and focus on reading,
and experience the joy of encountering books in daily life.
These two reading culture programs prepared by Gyeonggi Provincial Library
will be a great opportunity to rediscover the joy of reading.
