National Parks Blooming Through Art

June 5 - August 1, 2026

If you visit Jeonju, you will likely explore the Hanok Village. Here, I introduce a refreshing place where you can enjoy an exhibition and take a break.

Jeonju White Western House

- Address: 67 Gyeonggijeon-gil, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, North Jeolla Province

- Operating Hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

- Closed: Every Monday

- Admission: Free

The Jeonju White Western House, a new cultural space in North Jeolla Province, was used as the governor's residence until June 2022. It was renovated into a public space and opened to citizens in May 2024.

During the exhibition period, from June 5 to August 1, 2026, visitors can explore the works of modern artists inspired by the travelogues of Confucian scholars from the Joseon Dynasty. The first floor of the White Western House showcases these artworks.

The Beginning of National Parks

In 1872, Yellowstone in the United States was designated as the world's first national park, leading to the global spread of the national park system. In South Korea, Jirisan National Park was designated as the first national park in 1967.

The beautiful landscapes of Muju Jeoksang Mountain and Gucheon-dong's Wolhwan River are depicted in traditional ink wash painting. Impressive modern interpretations of the cool waterfalls and the scenic beauty of Hyangjeokbong are also on display.

The stunning natural scenery of Naejangsan and Deogyusan, representative national parks of North Jeolla Province, is depicted in urban watercolor. This exhibition evokes the emotions felt by scholars walking in the Naejangsan area over a century ago, allowing visitors to experience its beauty through modern art and words.

As you ascend to the second floor, you will find a beautifully designed reception room that captures the essence of traditional Hanok architecture. The large windows frame a picturesque view of the historic Hanok rooftops and lush nature.

The exhibition also features photographs showcasing the passage of time in Byeonsan Peninsula, Deogyusan, and Naejangsan displayed on an exquisite mother-of-pearl cabinet.

There is an interactive space where visitors can color and create their own artworks, making it a great activity for families with children, as well as for adults.

Visitors can also participate in a memory mailbox project, where they can write down their memories and send them to a red mailbox at the entrance to receive them back in a month.

The second-floor exhibition hall displays photographs comparing the past and present of national parks, creating a serene atmosphere that invites reflection.

The exhibition is captivating, prompting thoughts like, 'This is how it used to be' and inspiring plans for weekend trips to national parks.

There are also cute merchandise items reflecting the charm of national parks.

As you enter further, you will discover a cozy reading nook perfect for enjoying a book, giving off a comforting café vibe.

From the second floor, step out onto the outdoor terrace to enjoy the blue sky and green nature. Jeonju's landscapes from the White Western House provide a beautiful backdrop.

Take a moment to relax and enjoy the view of Jeonju Hanok Village, well-kept pine trees, the blue sky, and the majestic Chimmyeong Mountain.

The exhibition at Jeonju White Western House is a wonderful opportunity to explore the cultural value and beauty of national parks through various forms of art.

In June, the Jeonju White Western House will host a series of events, including a national park pop-up store, citizen docent programs, promotional booths, traditional music performances, and talks with artists.
