Finding Time for Yourself: The Midlife Internship Camp

[Reporter Kim Jin-young]
Do you remember the last time you took time for yourself?
As responsibilities and tasks multiply,
the question of 'what do I want to do?' often gets pushed aside.
Many middle-aged individuals may face this dilemma at some point.
To address this, Gyeonggi Province has created a program
to help individuals prepare for a transition in their lives.
This is the country's first 'Midlife Internship (人-Turn) Camp.'
This program goes beyond personal change; it connects people and experiences across various regions.
It aims to create intersections where the experiences of middle-aged individuals meet local resources,
opening new possibilities for both the community and its residents.
▪ Target Participants: Gyeonggi residents aged 40-64 (born between January 1, 1961, and December 31, 1986)
▪ Application Period: April 20 (Mon) - May 31 (Sun), 2026
▪ Duration: Approximately 15 weeks (starting at the end of June 2026)
▪ Program: Life transition education, local preliminary visits (2 nights), project implementation (3 nights), sharing results, etc.
▪ Application Method: Online application
▪ Selection Method: Document review + online interview
▪ Number of Participants: 30 per region, total of 150
▪ Participation Fee: Free (some meal and personal costs may apply)
“Here’s how the 15-week program will proceed”
The program starts with exploratory education, allowing participants to reflect on themselves and clarify their direction,
naturally forming teams and specifying project topics during this process.
Teams will then visit the local area to refine their plans based on firsthand observations.
This program emphasizes not just learning but also meeting new people and engaging in direct experiences,
transforming 'thoughts' into 'experiences.'
After the program concludes, participants will regroup to share their experiences,
ensuring that their insights can guide their future paths.
1st Stage: Exploratory Education (5 weeks)
“A time to center yourself again”
The exploratory education begins at the end of June and runs weekly for about 5 weeks,
held in regional training locations from 1 PM to 4 PM.
2nd Stage: Team Formation and Direction Setting
“A process of deciding who to work with and what to do”
During this stage, participants will share interests and concerns to form teams,
focusing on projects connected to the local areas.
3rd Stage: Local Preliminary Visit (2 nights, 3 days)
“Visiting the site changes your perspective”
Teams will spend 2 nights and 3 days in their assigned areas to meet locals and refine their project plans.
4th Stage: Local Project Implementation (3 nights, 4 days)
“Now it’s time to take action”
Teams will carry out their projects through experiential activities linked to the local community.
5th Stage: Conclusion and Post-Support
“Continuing the experience beyond the program”
After all activities, participants will share their experiences,
and post-support will include job counseling and networking opportunities.
If you're looking to tackle your current challenges in a new way,
consider this opportunity.
