Exploring the Wonders of Geoparks in Gyeonggi Province

As warm sunshine and pleasant breezes fill the air,
are you planning a special outing with family or loved ones?
This spring,
how about embarking on a journey into the extraordinary mysteries shaped by the Earth thousands of years ago?
The new attraction at the Yeoncheon Geopark,
the 'Auraji Pillow Lava Suspension Bridge',
is a place where you can learn about the history of our land
and enjoy thrilling activities beyond mere sightseeing.
Gyeonggi Province is currently fostering this 'Geopark' as a global attraction.
Today, we introduce the stunning beauty of the Han River,
which has recently become a hot topic.
The geopark is more than just a beautiful landscape;
it preserves geological values that hold the history of the Earth
and utilizes them as educational and tourism resources,
revitalizing the local economy.
Currently, Gyeonggi Province operates two geoparks:
the 'Han River UNESCO Global Geopark' and
the 'Hwaseong National Geopark'.
Gyeonggi Province is actively promoting the 'Geopark Support Project'
to nurture this valuable geological heritage into a world-class attraction.
From maintaining geological sites to supporting program operations
and strengthening integrated management systems among local governments,
Gyeonggi Province is poised to become a 'global center for geological tourism'.
The Han River Geopark features unique terrains formed
between 540,000 and 120,000 years ago by volcanic eruptions.
Notable geological sites include:
the Jeonggokri site, Auraji pillow lava,
Dove Cliff Waterfall, Muguri Gorge,
Jiktang Waterfall, and Pocheon Art Valley.
The most famous site, Jaein Waterfall,
features emerald waters surrounded by columnar joints,
creating a breathtaking scene.
Gyeonggi Province is developing a 200,000㎡ ecological park
around Jaein Waterfall to prepare for its transformation into a global tourist destination.
The Auraji Pillow Lava Suspension Bridge,
opened in December 2025, offers a thrilling way
to enjoy this mystical landscape up close.
This 300m pedestrian suspension bridge features two observation decks,
allowing you to take in the stunning views of the Han River.
The combination of flowing waters beneath your feet and the breathtaking cliffs ahead
is truly spectacular.
Gyeonggi Province continues to maintain its precious geological resources
so that everyone can enjoy them safely.
This weekend, why not visit Gyeonggi Province
to experience the special gifts left by the Earth thousands of years ago?
