When considering the Earth's time in 365 days, humanity's existence is said to equate to about 3 seconds.
This highlights the immense duration required for life to thrive.
Nevertheless, a year still feels like one of the longest measures of time.
The year 2026 has begun.
If you wish to witness a long history up close, exploring the nearby geology is a great option.
Ulsan is home to various fishing villages along the coast, and Jujeon-dong is one of them.
It is also a site where you can observe granite and volcanic rock, both classified as globally protected geological resources.
The Jujeon-dong fishing village includes a fishing community center and a space for fishing experiences.
Although it is a fishing village, Jujeon-dong in Ulsan's Dong-gu has also developed a living environment forest.
This forest utilizes the surrounding area to create green spaces.
I once learned about pebbles on Geoje Island, and I discovered that Ulsan also has its own pebble beaches.
There is also a story about a woman known as the Pebble Woman.
For those who live by the sea, life continues on the water, leading to the tradition of the fishing festival, which wishes for safety and good catches for the year.
The residents of Jujeon-dong have a long history of conducting the Dangsanje, a ritual wishing for the safety and prosperity of their village.
While there are several pebble beaches across the country, the most well-known are Hagdong Pebble Beach in Geoje and Jujeon Beach in Ulsan.
The granite and volcanic rock resources in Jujeon-dong were formed 60 to 70 million years ago, showcasing significant volcanic activity in southeastern Korea.
Despite the weather not being ideal, walking along the beach allows you to enjoy the refreshing sounds of pebbles, resembling black pearls, colliding with the waves.
The changing colors of the sky and the emerald waves on clear days serve as a reminder of the passage of time.
Ulsan's coastline is rich with scenic spots, including Jujeon Beach, Jinhae Beach, Daewangam, Seuldo, Ganjeolgot, Whale Culture Village, Ilsan Beach, and Gangdol Pebble Beach.
Many people associate beach trips with sightseeing or strolling, but Jujeon-dong offers spaces where you can slow down and enjoy your time.
Relaxing with a warm cup of coffee in a uniquely designed café enhances the experience of being close to the sea.
Some travel destinations are lesser-known, which can be a blessing.
JuJeon-dong provides a space for local living, experiences that transcend mere consumption, and opportunities for strolling and relaxation, making it a perfect place to contemplate the meaning of our brief time on Earth.
