Exploring the Taehwa River Water Sports Center in Ulsan
The Taehwa River flows through the heart of Ulsan, leading to the East Sea and serving as a central hub for the city's industry and culture.
Once polluted due to industrialization, the river has transformed into a pristine waterway, with salmon returning annually to spawn, making it a true pride of Ulsan.
There are plenty of sights and activities to enjoy along the Taehwa River, and one of the highlights is the Taehwa River Water Sports Center, where visitors can experience a variety of water sports while enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
The Taehwa River Water Sports Center is located near the second parking lot of the Taehwa River National Garden in Sinjeong-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan.
The center operates from Wednesday to Sunday and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Operating hours are from 10 AM to 6 PM, with seven sessions available each day, each lasting 50 minutes.
The facility includes a ticket office, changing rooms, an education room, and a docking area.
The process for using the facility is simple: 1) Visit the office and ticket booth, 2) Purchase a ticket for your chosen activity, 3) Use the education room for safety training, and 4) Move to the docking area for your experience. A facility map is provided for easy navigation.
First, you'll need to choose the activity you want to try. The center offers non-motorized options like paddleboarding and kayaking, as well as motorized family boats and picnic boats.
Non-motorized options are free, while motorized boats have a fee of 7,000 KRW per person for family and picnic boats, and 7,500 KRW for party boats.
Experience times vary based on the type of boat, and the minimum and maximum number of passengers differ. I booked a family boat for two people with my child.
Changing rooms and showers are available, with a 2,000 KRW fee for shower use. Many people mistake the signs indicating male and female for restrooms; however, restrooms are located under the Sinmidaebat Bridge.
Before participating in water sports, you must wear a life jacket and undergo safety training in the education room. You'll learn how to properly wear a life jacket and receive important safety instructions.
While enjoying the natural beauty of the Taehwa River is important, safety should always come first!
On the way to the docking area, you’ll see kayaks and paddleboards, including a transparent kayak that allows you to see underwater.
A waiting area with tables is also available. For safety, the number of participants per session is limited. There is a canopy for shade where you can relax before your activity.
The blue buoys mark the docking area, where the motorized boats are moored, and safety personnel are present. Please be aware that access is restricted outside of operating hours.
The family boat we boarded had a safety officer who kindly explained how to start the engine and operate the boat.
The controls are simple, allowing anyone to drive the family boat easily. You can navigate between the orange buoys on either side of the docking area, and it's safer to operate towards the center of the river.

The Taehwa River offers a unique blend of urban views with tall buildings and lush greenery. As you admire the reflections of the twin buildings and towering trees in the pristine water, you'll feel a sense of healing.
With the pleasant weather, you can feel the temperature rise during the day, and riding on a motorized boat brings a refreshing breeze that lifts your spirits.
As we moved towards the Sinmidaebat Bridge, inspired by a whale, we observed fish leaping out of the water.
Although these moments are fleeting and hard to capture in photos, their presence is unmistakable.
Many visitors flocked to the Taehwa River Water Sports Center over the weekend, making it an ideal spot to enjoy the beautiful nature of the Taehwa River.
