Exploring the Scenic Drive of Go Gunsan Archipelago: Seonyudo Island

If you're looking for a place to unwind without traveling far, I highly recommend a trip to the Go Gunsan Archipelago in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do.
We set out with family from Jeonju and took the Saemangeum Expressway to explore the archipelago. Just gazing at the sea scenery from the car lightened my mood significantly.
The drive from Jeonju to Go Gunsan is smooth, especially via the Saemangeum Expressway, making it an ideal route for a leisurely drive.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, the highway tolls were waived, which eased our travel expenses, making it perfect for a quick getaway.
The Go Gunsan Archipelago features several islands, including Seonyudo, Munyeodo, and Jangjado, connected by roads and bridges, allowing for a delightful island-hopping experience by car.
Each time we crossed between islands, the scenery changed slightly, offering a unique perspective of the same sea.
We began our trip at Jangjado. On a previous visit, I had difficulty finding parking due to the crowds, but this time we easily found a spot and enjoyed exploring the area.
Additionally, parking was free during the holiday, which was a pleasant surprise. It's wise to check for any changes in operational hours during peak seasons before your visit.
Upon arriving at Jangjado, the atmosphere was perfect for a quick snack. The hotteok and fish cakes were delicious.
This break helped set the rhythm for our trip. Stopping briefly to enjoy warm food made our winter beach exploration much more enjoyable.
After Jangjado, we moved on to Seonyudo Beach, where we admired the winter sea up close.
It wasn't crowded like during peak season, allowing us to appreciate the ocean at a leisurely pace, with just the sound of waves and wind enhancing the travel experience.
Seonyudo Beach is particularly suitable for those planning a scenic-focused itinerary.
The area around Seonyudo Beach offers many pleasant walking paths, making it ideal for a light stroll.
If you're looking for a winter outing without a hectic schedule, prioritizing beach walks and viewpoints will provide a satisfying experience.
The true essence of a Go Gunsan drive is captured by slowly cruising along the roads connecting the islands.
The continuous ocean views from the car window fostered natural conversations among passengers, which is one reason I recommend Go Gunsan for family outings.
What I found appealing about the Go Gunsan drive was that you can have a fulfilling experience without a tightly packed itinerary. A brief stop at Jangjado, a visit to Seonyudo Beach, and a leisurely drive along the coastal roads made for a perfectly satisfying day.
For those seeking places to visit in Gunsan, especially when feeling worn out and overwhelmed, sometimes a change of scenery in a beautiful location is more refreshing than a packed schedule.
The trip to Go Gunsan, easily accessible via the Saemangeum Expressway from Jeonju, was an ideal winter outing.
I hope to return on a clearer day and stay until sunset next time.
