Exploring the Hydrangea Garden at Ulsan Grand Park

As the early summer heat continues, hydrangea flowers begin to bloom.
When thinking of hydrangeas in Ulsan, Jangsaengpo often comes to mind, but Ulsan Grand Park also features a beautiful hydrangea garden welcomed by lush greenery.
I recently visited the hydrangea garden in Ulsan's Nam-gu, a perfect spot for a peaceful and quiet viewing of these stunning flowers.
The quickest route to the hydrangea garden is through the main entrance of Ulsan Grand Park.
If you wish to explore other areas of the park or engage in a leisurely stroll or exercise, you can also enter through the east or south gates.
Upon entering the main gate, you will see a pond of abundance and a large windmill.
Many visitors can be seen enjoying the shade and relaxing around the pond.
This area, especially around the windmill, is a popular night view spot, especially during the winter light festival.
Following the path to the right from the main gate, you will pass the Family Culture Center and come across a sign directing you to the hydrangea garden.
This path also leads to the rose garden and the zoo near the south gate.
In the youth facility area, there are inline skating rinks, basketball courts, and futsal fields for young people to enjoy.
As you pass the restroom and approach the entrance to the futsal field, you can already see the vibrant hydrangea flowers in bloom.
Beyond the futsal field, you will officially enter the Ulsan Grand Park hydrangea garden.
The garden is nestled in a forested area between the futsal fields, showcasing a total of 11 varieties of hydrangeas, including Rodeo, Pimpernel, Brink, Marshall, and Early Blue.
Since hydrangeas are sensitive to sunlight, many gardens are created in shaded areas under trees.
In the Ulsan Grand Park hydrangea garden, you will notice that the flowers bloom particularly vibrantly in the shade of the trees.
One unique feature of hydrangeas is their ability to change color based on soil composition, a phenomenon known as color variation. They bloom blue in acidic soil and pink in alkaline soil. The Ulsan Grand Park hydrangea garden contains a mix of both types of soil.
You can enjoy a leisurely walk along a zigzag path on the hill while admiring the hydrangea flowers.
I visited in early June, and while some areas had not yet bloomed, the best time to see the hydrangeas is from late June to July.
With various attractions, sports, and recreational activities, Ulsan Grand Park offers a splendid view of the blooming hydrangeas.
Depending on the variety, some hydrangeas bloom early while others bloom later.
The hydrangea garden in Ulsan's Nam-gu is a tranquil spot for flower viewing, resembling a hidden secret garden that can be found near the futsal field.
