A Creative Haven for Youth in Jincheon
We visited the Deoksan Youth Cultural Center, a place where the dreams and talents of the youth in Jincheon-gun flourish.
Located in the heart of the Chungbuk Innovation City, this multi-cultural space is designed to relieve local youths from academic stress and allow them to showcase their talents freely.
It serves as a vibrant hub, moving beyond the rigid confines of a traditional study space to actively support the dreams of young people with a variety of creative activities.
The first floor features a dance studio, complete with a large mirror wall, making it an ideal space for youth to practice dance or engage in club activities. A big monitor is also available, perfect for playing choreography videos for group practice.
Imagining the youth of Jincheon sweating and nurturing their dreams here brings a smile to my face.
There is also a multipurpose room equipped with stage facilities and sound systems, serving as a venue for youth gatherings, presentations, and cultural arts programs, all in a spacious and inviting environment.
The walls are adorned with warm messages of encouragement and hope. Walking through the corridors of the cultural center, you can find heartwarming quotes.
One line from Sister Hae-in's poem, "I wish you were such a friend," is beautifully illustrated: "A friend with whom you can be comfortable enough not to have to sort out your feelings while watching each other's expressions..."
It must be comforting for weary students to read such words as they pass by.
Nearby, round wooden pieces hang with precious dreams and wishes written by the youth: "Youth is the hope of the future," "Success in employment," and "May my future life be fulfilling and allow me to praise myself." These heartfelt messages fill the net, and as I read each one, I silently cheer, hoping they all come true.
The Deoksan Youth Cultural Center also features a mini arcade. Singing a latest hit in a vibrant karaoke booth or competing with friends on arcade games can make academic stress disappear.
A pool table is also available, along with several high-performance PCs, making it a great spot for gaming or studying with friends.
A cozy relaxation area is well-equipped with bean bags and high-backed sofas, perfect for resting comfortably. The wooden tiered floor provides a soft spot for kids to read or relax.
The bookshelves lining the walls are eye-catching, with individual reading spaces nestled between them, creating an inviting nook with soft lighting.
In September, the 2026 Youth Festival for Jincheon youth will be held at Hwarang Park, and I look forward to the stories of that day when everyone gathers to showcase their talents.
