A Must-Visit Place in Hamann: Goryeodong Archaeological Site
The beautiful summer scenery will become even more vibrant next week.
1. As summer approaches in Hamann, the area is filled with shades of pink.
With the onset of the sweltering heat in July, summer flowers began to bloom across Hamann. During my visit, I easily spotted the 'Baerong' tree, which symbolizes 'wealth', blooming in various small rural villages.
Known for its repeated blooming from July to September for about 100 days, the Baerong tree, also called 'Mokbaekilhong', adds a refreshing charm to the summer landscape of Hamann.
2. Current Blooming Status and Expected Full Bloom of the Baerong Tree at Goryeodong Archaeological Site
As of July 9, 2026
The entrance of the Goryeodong site, recognized as a national Baerong tree landmark, greets visitors with delicate pink flowers lining the road.
This serene traditional house and tile-roofed structure, adorned with red flowers, attract photographers and travelers from all over the country every year.
As of July 9, 2026, the current blooming rate is around 50-60%. Each tree blooms at different times, so it will take some time until full bloom. Once bloomed, the flowers wilt after about a week, but other Mokbaekilhong flowers continue to bloom in their place, maintaining a vibrant display for a long time.
Considering the weather conditions, the expected full bloom of the Baerong trees at Goryeodong is anticipated around July 20, 2026.
The village’s white lotus cluster is still in the budding stage. If temperatures remain steady, flowers are expected to start blooming one by one from next week, and by mid-July, visitors can witness the Baerong trees alongside the pristine white lotus flowers.

Goryeodong Archaeological Site is cherished for its beautiful summer scenery, but it is also a precious cultural heritage that embodies the loyalty and history of the faithful.
Designated as a Gyeongsangnam-do cultural asset since 1983, the site features an 8-meter tall Baerong tree, designated as a protected tree in 2020, at the village entrance.
The connection between Goryeodong and the Baerong tree dates back 600 years. After the fall of Goryeo, a scholar named Lee Il-seon settled in the area with his family, and his fourth son, Lee O, discovered the beautiful Baerong tree blossoms and decided to make it his home.
4. Nearby Attractions (Another Baerong Tree Landmark)
If you've explored the Goryeodong site, consider visiting the 'Malisan Tombs' in Gaya-eup, just a 10-minute drive away. This UNESCO World Heritage site is adorned with red Baerong flowers during summer, offering another delightful experience.
