Exploring the Charm of Yonggung in Yecheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do
If you're looking for a relaxing atmosphere away from crowded tourist spots during the hot summer, how about visiting Yonggung in Yecheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do?
Yonggung-myeon offers a glimpse into the region's rich railway history while allowing you to savor the local delicacy, Yonggung Sundae.
Today, I will introduce you to a journey that starts at Yonggung Station Theme Park and features Yonggung Sundae, a representative K-food of Yecheon!
The first stop is Yonggung Station Theme Park.
This space preserves the historical essence of Yonggung Station, which used to serve the Gyeongbuk Line, and is now a prominent tourist destination in Yecheon.
The name 'Yonggung Station' is derived from the name of the area, Yonggung-myeon, which has long been associated with legends of dragons.
After examining the comprehensive guide at the entrance, I strolled slowly along the old railway tracks.
Though not vast, the remnants of the railway create a nostalgic atmosphere, making you feel like you're on a time travel adventure.
The park features various attractions, including the Twelve Guardian Deities sculptures, which serve as great photo spots for visitors.
Exploring the charming sculptures while soaking in the ambiance of the old station was quite enjoyable.
After my walk, I took a break at a café located in front of Yonggung Station.
Here, I enjoyed a refreshing drink along with a cute rabbit-shaped bread themed around Yonggung.
The café also sells local specialties, making it a perfect spot to relax and experience the region's charm.
Yonggung Station Theme Park also features a media art exhibition for visitors.

After experiencing the old tales of Yecheon at the park, I headed to try the famous Yonggung Sundae.
Yonggung-myeon is known for its Yonggung Sundae, with a dedicated street named after it.
This local dish has been beloved by residents for years and is a must-try for travelers visiting Yecheon.
I visited a restaurant located right in front of Yonggung Station to taste Yonggung Sundae.
The sundae soup, served with warm broth, and the makchang sundae were particularly impressive with their unique chewy texture and rich flavor.
Yonggung Sundae is made by stuffing pig intestines, providing a distinct chewiness that sets it apart.
The combination of local ingredients and traditional cooking methods creates a deep flavor unique to Yecheon.
After my meal, I enjoyed various traditional Korean snacks and misutgaru (mixed grain powder) for dessert.
The nutty and refreshing misutgaru was particularly memorable, perfectly concluding the hearty taste of Yonggung Sundae.
Today, I explored the small city of Yecheon, starting from Yonggung Station and savoring Yonggung Sundae.
It was a special time to experience both the history of Yonggung and the local flavors.
Just a 10-minute drive from Yonggung, you can also visit Yecheon's famous attractions like Hwayongpo and Samgang Jumaek.
