Agape Garden, located in Hwangdeung-myeon, Iksan, is a privately maintained garden that has been lovingly cultivated for over 50 years. As Jeollabuk-do's 4th private garden, it is open to the public for free. The garden features trees and flowers that reflect the changing seasons, providing a serene place to enjoy fresh air and nature regardless of the time of year.
The garden was established in 1970 by the late Father Seo Jeong-soo, who created a nature-friendly arboretum for the elderly at the Agape Welfare Facility. In March 2021, it was registered as a private garden and underwent renovations to transform it into a community resting area.
While the overall size of Agape Garden is not very large, its layout is well-planned. It features 1,416 trees from 17 different species, including Metasequoia, Korean fir, and Japanese maple, making it an excellent spot to appreciate a variety of plants in one place.
The signature Metasequoia walkway is a highlight of the garden. Walking along this towering path is a healing experience. In summer, the lush green leaves create a natural tunnel, making it a place worth revisiting.
Don't miss the chance to capture stunning photos along the Metasequoia path. Position your camera low and shoot upward to capture the grandeur of the trees.
The walking course takes about an hour, making it a manageable and relaxing experience. Take your time to stroll and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Spring flowers are starting to bloom, with beautiful displays of daffodils, tulips, magnolias, and poppies throughout the seasons. Camellias are also beginning to blossom beautifully.
Cats seem to enjoy the flower viewing too, appearing relaxed in the garden.
Weekends might be crowded, but weekdays are serene, making Agape Garden a lovely place to visit. I highly recommend stopping by during other seasons as well.

An outdoor garden is currently being developed, which will be a wonderful spot to enjoy the fresh air and the mountain view when the weather improves.
