Exploring Gumi's Unique K-Food: Mukimari Jokbal

K-Food enjoyed by people around the world
is now receiving attention not just for kimchi and bulgogi,
but also for local dishes that have been cherished in the region for a long time.
This time, I visited the Jokbal Alley in Gumi's Saemaul Central Market
to experience Gumi's K-Food firsthand.
While I usually eat it as takeout,
on this day, I enjoyed it warm at the market,
allowing me to savor the unique flavors of Gumi once again.
The vibrant Jokbal Alley in the bustling market
welcomed me with the lively atmosphere and warmth typical of traditional markets.
Thanks to the energetic voices of the merchants and the bustling crowd,
the market was filled with vitality, and the Jokbal Alley was a popular spot.
While waiting for my mukimari jokbal,
I could see large pots of jokbal being boiled.
Seeing the glistening jokbal heightened my anticipation,
and I could feel the care that went into preparing this dish over a long time.
Mukimari Jokbal from Gumi, enhanced with garlic and chili
might bring to mind a red seasoning for some.
However, the mukimari jokbal enjoyed in Gumi has a unique charm.
The boiled jokbal is generously mixed with garlic and chili,
and seasoned with sesame oil and sesame seeds.
The garlic adds flavor without overpowering,
and the chili is not overwhelmingly spicy,
making it a taste that anyone can enjoy comfortably.
The seasoning naturally blends with the jokbal,
resulting in a light yet rich flavor,
and the more you chew, the more the natural flavors of the ingredients come alive.
Personally, I found myself reaching for this dish more than regular jokbal.
The unique dining culture of Gumi, enjoyed with sulguk
is another delightful aspect of mukimari jokbal.
The sulguk served with the mukimari jokbal is an essential pleasure.
With a rich broth containing pork entrails,
adding fermented shrimp and chives,
and mixing it with rice completes a hearty meal.
Being able to enjoy both jokbal and sulguk
is another charm unique to Gumi's mukimari jokbal.
Even though I ordered one dish,
there was a satisfying feeling of enjoying two different foods.
If you travel to Gumi,
I highly recommend trying the mukimari jokbal.
This dish, loved by the locals for a long time,
will allow you to directly experience the charm of Gumi's K-Food.
