Exploring Daewangam Park: A Natural Gem in Ulsan
Welcome to Daewangam Park, a beloved destination known for its stunning blue East Sea, unique rock formations shaped by years of waves, lush pine forests, and breathtaking suspension bridge!
Upon entering the park, you will find that there is no admission fee, and a public parking lot is available nearby. The suspension bridge is free to access but is closed on the second Tuesday of every month and operates only from 9 AM to 6 PM.
Just a short walk from the entrance, you will encounter a fork in the path. To reach the suspension bridge, head to the left. If I were to recommend a route through Daewangam Park, I would suggest visiting the suspension bridge first, followed by the coastal walking trail, Ulgid Lighthouse, and finally the Daewangam rock.
This route is well-designed for a sequential exploration, allowing you to enjoy the park for more than half a day.
The true charm of Daewangam Park lies in its natural scenery rather than its facilities. Each season brings a variety of blooming flowers and towering pine trees, creating a refreshing atmosphere.
Currently, you can enjoy the sight of lilies and hydrangeas in bloom. From the very entrance, your eyes will be delighted, ensuring a satisfying visit.
The suspension bridge, which opened in 2021, stretches 303 meters and offers a unique experience of walking over the sea. The view of the ocean and city from the middle of the bridge is stunning, and the gentle swaying adds a bit of thrill to your walk. However, be cautious as it sways quite a bit, and remember that umbrellas are not allowed.
Crossing the suspension bridge leads you to the coastal walking path. The path is divided into sections, and if your goal is a leisurely stroll, you can turn right towards Ulgid Lighthouse and Daewangam Park.
The walking trail is well-maintained and easy to walk on, with benches and resting areas scattered throughout. The gentle slope makes it a perfect spot for families, couples, and friends to enjoy a leisurely walk together.
Ulgid Lighthouse is the first lighthouse on the East Coast and is designated as a registered cultural heritage site. If you visit Daewangam Park, be sure to take a moment to explore this historical structure.
Upon reaching Daewangam rock, you will be amazed by the sharp and jagged rocks that create a breathtaking landscape.
This area is steeped in legend, said to be where the queen of Silla's King Munmu transformed into a dragon to protect the country after her death.
Walking to the end of the trail, you may find spots that feel as if a dragon once lived there, and the views can be quite overwhelming. Like the suspension bridge, be cautious as the winds can be strong here.
Below Daewangam Park, you will find a place selling fresh seafood brought in by female divers. This area has become popular as a new attraction, offering fresh food from the rocky islands.
If you visit, be sure to look for sea daisies and meet the local cat family. These cute cats live among the rocks, freely roaming and adding a unique charm to the area.
Being surrounded by nature is refreshing and offers plenty of spots to linger, allowing you to take in the scenery for a long time. Many visitors take their time to enjoy the views.
When I first visited Daewangam Park, I was surprised to discover such a beautiful place in Ulsan, a city I thought of mainly for its shipbuilding, automotive, and port industries.
