At the tail end of autumn, I visited Haenggung-dong, a famous attraction in Suwon, for a last autumn outing.
Haenggung-dong is an interesting place where you can see the coexistence of the past and present, as it retains the wisdom and footsteps of King Jeongjo.
I heard there was a program that combines history with fun, so I participated.
It's called the ‘Haenggung-dong King's Alleyway Tour.’
This program involves taking a trip through the alleys with a local guide and is operated in four courses.
Among these, I visited the 4th course, where you can travel through K-dramas, as it's said to be popular.

Haenggung-dong, which had been the center of Suwon for a long time after the completion of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress in 1796, has emerged as a travel destination with the charm of a ‘city good for walking’ since the Ecological Transportation Project in 2013.
It has become a filming location for historical dramas as well as various modern dramas and has now established itself as a hot spot that is even more loved by the younger generation.
If you want to truly experience this special charm, the ‘Haenggung-dong King's Alleyway Tour’ is perfect.
As you slowly walk along the path that King Jeongjo walked with a local guide and listen to the stories,
you will soon become the main character in a drama.

The first place I visited was the kimbap restaurant that was the backdrop of the popular drama ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo.’
As I recalled the scene where Attorney Woo Young-woo ate the kimbap her father made for her and unraveled the clues to the case in the drama, I felt like I had become the main character in the drama without realizing it.
It wasn't selling kimbap as it is now a vacant store.
The exterior remained the same, so it seemed good for taking commemorative photos while thinking of Attorney Woo Young-woo in the drama.
Seeing foreign tourists taking snapshots in front of the store and enjoying themselves, I felt a subtle sense of pride in the status of K-dramas.

The next course was to move to a place called ‘Seonjae's House’ from the recently popular drama ‘Lovely Runner.’
On the way, I briefly looked around the birthplace of the painter Na Hye-seok. This place is more meaningful as it is the birthplace of Na Hye-seok, Korea's first female Western painter and a new woman.
Meet the story of the painter Na Hye-seok, who lived a more dramatic life than a drama.
Na Hye-seok's life, who was a pioneering female artist who made a big impact on society at the time by advocating for women's freedom and human rights through divorce confessions, was truly inspiring.

If you go a little further into the alley past Na Hye-seok's birthplace,
the filming location of ‘Lovely Runner’ unfolds.
Sol-i's house with a yellow umbrella and Seonjae's house with an impressive blue gate appear, conveying the excitement of the drama again.
As the drama was very popular,
there were many foreign tourists in front of the blue gate.
As expected, they were happily taking pictures while recreating scenes from the drama.
Seeing that, I smiled as I remembered the scene where Sol-i said, “You must have had a hard time without an umbrella” on a rainy day.
Actually, Sol-i's house is currently where Cafe Monted is operating,
so it seemed like a good place to take a break with a cup of tea.
Unfortunately, I couldn't visit because it was closed on the day I visited.
I heard that you can see Mt. Paldal and Seojangdae from the rooftop, so it would be nice to visit together if you have the chance.

I visited the ‘Booter’ Cafe, the filming location of the drama ‘Love According to the Law,’ which was set in a unique cafe that provides legal counseling.
This is where the Tiktak romance unfolded between actor Lee Seung-gi, the building owner, and actress Lee Se-young, who opened a legal counseling cafe.
It looked romantic with a vintage yet antique feel.
The scenery from inside to outside is beautiful here,
especially the night view from the rooftop is so pretty that many couples visit.
I also received a recommendation to try the waffles with avocado and fig jam, as it is a waffle 맛집.

Next, I visited ‘Haenggung Party,’ where the drama ‘Our Beloved Summer’ was filmed.
This is where Choi Woong (Choi Woo-shik) and Guk Yeon-soo (Kim Da-mi) filmed the scene where they played while splashing water.
It was a photo spot with beautiful visual aesthetics created by the combination of old fragrant trees and fortress walls.
In particular, the wall with murals and the blue autumn sky are like a picture, making it a great place to leave memorable photos.
It is also a drama that resonates with the message of ‘Find what you like’ through the main character Choi Woong.

The last place I visited was the promenade of Hwaseo Park, where actor Park Seo-joon went on a date in the drama ‘Itaewon Class.’
As I slowly walked along the path that connects inside and outside the fortress,
I could immediately see why so many people recommend this place.

Treasure-like attractions in the alleys of Haenggung-dong
As you walk along the ‘K-Drama Road,’ you will come across treasure-like attractions.
✅ The first attraction is Grandpa Jo Young-ho's ‘Rainwater Jar House No. 1.’
This is the place corresponding to Course 1 of the ‘Haenggung-dong King's Alleyway Tour.’
It is the first house equipped with a ‘rainwater piggy bank’ system that collects rainwater and uses it for flower pots.
Look for flower pots and rainwater jars filled with the grandfather's warm heart.
✅ The second attraction is ‘Hello Road,’ which was created by restoring the old road of the past.
‘Hello’ has three meanings.
This road is a place where the heart to wish for the well-being of cultural heritage, the well-being of the elderly, and the well-being of endangered animals is embedded, making it a heartwarming place just by its name.
✅ The third attraction is the alley behind the Suwon Literature House.
This is the alley where the world's first experiment of ‘Living Without a Car’ was conducted in 2013.
It is a symbolic place that raises awareness of the value of a sustainable city, and the poetry exhibitions displayed along the alley add to the emotion of the trip.
✅ The fourth attraction is Hwaseomun, the west gate among the four main gates of Suwon Hwaseong, and Northwest Gongsimdon, which became the motif for the Suwon City logo.
Hwaseomun, characterized by its unique Ongseong structure that protrudes to the side and can be climbed upwards, is National Treasure No. 403.
It is a place where you can solve history lessons as a bonus.
