On Thursday, July 9th, the 15th Blog Reporter Group of Hamann County held its inaugural ceremony at the Hamann County Office. I am incredibly grateful and excited to be part of this group again, and I would like to share the experiences we had during our press tour at Kkochchorin Healing Farm and the Nakwa Play Transmission Center.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the representative of Kkochchorin Healing Farm, who greeted us with a smile reminiscent of nature.

Before beginning our activities, we enjoyed a refreshing lotus leaf tea, which helped to cool our bodies and minds in the hot weather.

1. Making Lotus Leaf Rice

We placed rice and various toppings on prepared lotus leaves to create unique shapes of medicinal rice, then wrapped the rice in the leaves and steamed them. While our lotus leaf rice was steaming, we participated in making herbal sachets.

2. Making Herbal Sachets

Before creating sachets with six herbs (peony, angelica, dang gui, inji, white root, and hinoki), we learned about the basic knowledge and benefits of these herbs. By filling the prepared sachets with herbs, we had a valuable experience that contributes to our health.

About the benefits of the herbs...

Peony is known for its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as improving blood circulation and enhancing immunity. However, it is not suitable for pregnant or nursing women, or for those with cold bodies or weak digestive systems.

Angelica helps improve blood circulation and alleviates symptoms related to poor circulation, headaches, shoulder stiffness, and menstrual pain. It can also relieve stress and insomnia, but excessive intake may prolong menstrual periods.

Dang gui has been widely used in traditional medicine and is known as a 'tonic for women,' supporting women's health.

Inji (mugwort) is used in traditional medicine to relieve dampness and jaundice and aids in digestion.

White root is known for its warming properties and is used to relieve pain and calm the mind.

Hinoki has antibacterial and antifungal effects, improves skin conditions, relieves stress, enhances immunity, and promotes better sleep.

As we made our herbal sachets, the natural aroma of the herbs filled the air. This experience reminded us of the importance of health, and I hope many people can engage in such natural experiences.

Eating Lotus Leaf Rice

To our delight, a feast awaited us. While we were making the herbal sachets, the lotus leaf rice was ready, accompanied by a variety of side dishes. From boiled pork to seasoned vegetables and kimchi, the meal was a delightful surprise filled with medicinal plants. I thought it would be wonderful to bring my parents, who are from Hamann, here for such a meal.

We used walnuts, ginseng, black beans, jujubes, pumpkin, chestnuts, and peas to prepare the lotus leaf rice, which was beautifully presented with delicious side dishes. After enjoying our meal, we headed outside for more activities.

3. Walking Barefoot on Clay

Kkochchorin Healing Farm is a 9,000-pyeong facility that operates by reservation only, cultivating and processing over 150 types of herbs and edible flowers organically.

To prepare for barefoot walking, we simply needed to remove our shoes. Walking barefoot over palm mats, mud, sand, and gravel paths allowed us to feel the sensations under our feet while experiencing the healing benefits of nature.

4. Foot Bath Experience

After our barefoot walk, we enjoyed a foot bath using warm water infused with homegrown herbs. This experience not only relieved fatigue but also promoted overall health.

The warm water and a cup of tea afterward made me feel refreshed and light, even in the hot weather.

Our day concluded with a visit to the Nakwa Play Transmission Center, where we participated in making Nakwa sticks, a traditional firework made from charcoal powder. I hope that the Nakwa Play will be recognized as a national cultural heritage.

Experiencing the beauty of nature and tradition at Kkochchorin Healing Farm was truly memorable.
