Experience the Unique World of Rattan at Nizrattan

Welcome to Nizrattan, a special one-day class space where rattan, emotion, and relaxation come together.
Located in Suji District, Yongin City, this experiential rattan workshop invites you to enjoy crafts in your daily life and create your own unique pieces.
Today, we met with instructor Kim Hyun-jung, who runs rattan classes for everyone from children to adults, under the motto of 'transmitting the comfort of natural materials.'
Q: Hello! Before we begin the interview, could you please introduce yourself briefly?
A: Hello, I am Kim Hyun-jung, running the Nizrattan workshop in Jukjeon, Yongin. Since 2021, I have been teaching rattan consistently, helping newcomers comfortably complete their projects.
Q: What kind of place is 'Nizrattan'?
A: Nizrattan is an experiential workshop where you can create various everyday items using natural rattan. We offer a wide range of classes, including one-day sessions, hobby classes, private lessons, and kids' classes, all in a warm atmosphere designed for beginners.
Q: What motivated you to start 'Nizrattan'?
A: I was captivated by the natural results of rattan materials and the sense of stability that comes from the crafting process. I wanted to share this charm with many people, creating a space for everyone to pause and immerse themselves in creativity.
Q: What sets 'Nizrattan' apart from other workshops?
A: Our small class sizes allow us to focus on the quality of each participant's work. We provide meticulous assistance from the basics to finer details, making it accessible for everyone, from young children to adults. Additionally, we emphasize practical projects that can be used in everyday life.
Q: What concept and philosophy guide your operation of 'Nizrattan'?
A: Our primary philosophy is to convey the comfort of natural materials and the warm energy of handmade crafts. We value the experience of working at your own pace, slowly and accurately, rather than rushing through the process. We hope to provide a space where you can temporarily escape the hustle of daily life and focus on yourself.
Q: Do you have any memorable episodes from running your shop?
A: Recently, a mother-daughter pair visited our workshop to film a class scene for a Channel ENA program. Initially, I had some concerns, but I saw it as an opportunity to introduce rattan crafting to a broader audience. The warm interactions between the mother and daughter during the shoot left a lasting impression on me.
Q: Who would you recommend 'Nizrattan' to?
A: I especially recommend it to those who are new to rattan, enjoy hands-on crafting, or are seeking a moment of relaxation. Our classes are well-suited for dates, mother-daughter experiences, hobbies with friends, or solo healing time.
Q: Do you have any future goals or dreams for 'Nizrattan'?
A: I plan to expand our project lineup and continuously develop experiential programs so that more people can enjoy rattan in their daily lives. My goal is for 'Nizrattan' to become a representative experiential workshop in Yongin.
Q: Lastly, what would you like to say to the citizens and visitors of Yongin considering 'Nizrattan'?
A: If you visit Yongin, I hope you take a moment to experience the warmth of rattan crafting. From small coasters to larger mood lamps, you can enjoy the joy of creating with your own hands. We welcome you to create a comfortable and special time at Nizrattan!
