Discovering the Eco-Healing Forest at Geumo Mountain
As early summer approaches, there are places where the greenery becomes exceptionally beautiful. One such place I visited is the Eco-Healing Forest at Geumo Mountain in Gumi.
The mere fact that such a lush forest can be found close to the city was exciting enough, but walking through it exceeded my expectations. Let me introduce you to the Eco-Healing Forest located in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province.
On the way to Geumo Mountain, I felt uplifted. The towering Metasequoia trees lining the sidewalk created a green tunnel that seemed to warmly welcome travelers.
As I ascended further into the Eco-Healing Forest, a dense pine forest unfolded before me. The sight of the Metasequoia trees alongside the pines felt majestic, as if they were proudly showcasing their height.
The landscape created by the greenery resembled a beautiful painting, prompting me to pause and take it all in.
Upon entering the forest, the subtle scent of phytoncides wafted through the air. The tall pine trees provided natural shade, making it feel almost cool even during midday.
The well-maintained deck paths were easy to walk on, and the benches and forest pavilions along the way offered ample opportunities to rest. Listening to the sounds of birds and the breeze as I slowly enjoyed the forest bathing made my body and mind feel lighter.
The Eco-Healing Forest was selected as an open tourist destination by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for 2024. Only two places in Gumi were chosen, and the selection process included eligibility checks, written evaluations, and on-site assessments.
This project aims to improve accessibility for vulnerable tourist groups, including the disabled, the elderly, and families with young children, by enhancing pathways, slopes, and facilities, as well as supporting experiential content development. After walking through, I was impressed by how well the paths and movement routes were arranged, ensuring that everyone can comfortably enjoy the forest.
After my walk, I explored the surrounding area. Parking was convenient at the second public parking lot of Geumo Mountain, and approximately 300 meters in front of the Eco-Healing Forest is the Geumo Mountain cable car.
Across the way, Geumo Mountain Square stretches out, and at the entrance, there is Geumo Land, which includes Tiny Ping Land and a café, making it a great course for family visitors.
At the foot of the mountain, there are restaurants selling dumplings and handmade noodles, perfect for enjoying a meal after a stroll.
What stood out the most during this trip was not the extravagant sights but the comfort that nature provides. Walking beneath the Metasequoia trees and inhaling the phytoncides in the pine forest was healing enough.
It felt incredibly attractive to know that such scenery could be found in Gumi without traveling far. If you’re looking for a leisurely day in the most beautiful season of greenery, consider spending some time at the Eco-Healing Forest at Geumo Mountain!
