Discovering a Local Gem in Taebaek: Busan Gamja Ongsimi

Hello, this is Jung Soo-yeon from the SNS Reporter Group!
For my first article of 2026, I want to share a local favorite that every Taebaek resident knows and loves.
It's located in the Taebaek Hwangji Free Market.
Welcome to [Busan Gamja Ongsimi]!
This deliciousness cannot be hidden!
(Everyone knows when something is tasty!)
Since it's in a traditional market, I hoped it would be a hidden spot known only to a few, but delicious food has a way of attracting attention!
Sometimes I worry about long wait times,
but that's unnecessary worry!
The turnover rate is quite fast, so the wait isn't as long as you might think.
One of the reasons why many solo travelers visit this place is its charm.
The dishes are served in individual bowls, and the portions are generous!
So, it's common to see solo travelers enjoying a bowl of Ongsimi or Ongkal without any pressure.
Despite being a traditional market eatery, it's very solo-diner friendly!
That's an important point, right?
However, there's one reason why dining alone might be a bit disappointing.
The issue is with the potato pancake (Gamja Jeon).
When dining solo, you might think,
'I really can't eat any more after this Ongsimi...'
But here, Ongkal and Gamja Jeon are a perfect match!
Remember this combination; it's essential!
If you skip this combination,
you've only experienced half of what Taebaek Busan Gamja Ongsimi has to offer.
I dare to say that!
✔️ A local gem in a traditional market
✔️ Quick turnover even with a wait
✔️ Comfortable for solo diners
✔️ But if you're two or more, definitely add the Gamja Jeon!
If you're visiting Taebaek,
I highly recommend experiencing a warm meal in this market.
Today, I enjoyed my meal very much!
Here are some images to share the experience:
