Who is Kim Byung-jong?
Kim Byung-jong is a multifaceted artist who blurs the lines between writing and painting, showcasing a profound love for his hometown.
A representative master of Korea, he graduated from Seoul National University’s Oriental Painting Department and has held numerous solo exhibitions worldwide. He received the Cultural Medal of Korea, and his works are housed in institutions like the British Museum.
As a foundation for the Namwon City Museum of Art, he generously donated over 400 of his representative works and more than 5,000 materials and books to promote cultural and artistic development in his hometown.
As a painter who writes, he won both the New Spring Literary Contest and the Presidential Prize at an art exhibition during his university years. He holds a Ph.D. in Eastern Philosophy and has served as the dean of the College of Fine Arts at Seoul National University, leaving behind notable artworks and writings.
Gallery 1 on the first floor showcases the collection exhibition 'Child of the Morning,' featuring selected works from 1980 to 2020, including vibrant oil paintings of red flowers, symbolizing Namwon.
On the second floor, Galleries 2 and 3 host the special exhibition 'Kim Byung-jong's Drawings: Nevertheless,' focusing on the vitality conveyed through the density of the hand in a society where images are produced and consumed instantaneously.
