This visit to NOCT marked a very special 4th anniversary, filled with anticipation, effort, and a little bit of luck to finally secure a reservation.
From the jazz performances and nighttime Han River views to thoughtfully prepared dishes and wine, the evening unfolded slowly and romantically.
It became a memorable dinner where live music, food, and shared memories blended into a moment we both wanted to last longer.
A Hard-Earned Reservation for a Special Anniversary
It’s already our 4th anniversary, and every year we try to create special memories together.
This year, while my partner searched for a meaningful place, we decided on NOCT and immediately tried our luck with reservations.
Reservations open 30 days in advance on Catch Table and fill up incredibly fast, so at first, we thought our chances were slim.
After signing up for vacancy notifications and keeping my phone close all day, we finally succeeded on the third alert.
I was honestly so grateful for my partner’s persistence.
NOCT Operating Hours and Jazz Performance Details
NOCT operates daily from 6 PM to 12 AM and is closed every Sunday.
Live jazz performances take place twice each evening, from 7:00 to 7:40 and again from 9:20 to 10:00.
The performance fee is 10,000 KRW per person, and alcohol orders are mandatory for each guest, including non-alcoholic wine.
Window seats are available at 6 PM and 9 PM with a usage limit of two hours and thirty minutes, while other seating has no time limit.
Parking, Shuttle Service, and Seasonal Tips
Parking is free for three hours at Banpo Hangang Park, Lot 4, and a shuttle service runs in the evening from Gangnam Express Bus Terminal.
Since we planned to enjoy wine, we chose not to drive.
As NOCT is one of the floating buildings on the Han River, winter evenings can be breezy, so taking a taxi from the nearest subway station is recommended.
In spring, summer, and autumn, the surrounding riverside paths make the walk itself part of the experience.
A Window Seat with a Magical Han River Night View
We had reserved a window seat at 9 PM and were guided to our table as soon as we arrived.
The expansive nighttime view of the Han River immediately caught my eye.
Watching the subway cross the bridge and seeing the lights of Namsan Tower across the river created a truly magical mood.
The staff carefully took our coats and explained the evening flow, letting us know the jazz performance would begin soon.
Thoughtfully Prepared Dishes and Wine Choices
After reviewing the menu, we ordered one small dish and two regular dishes.
Our choices were prawn and octopus confit with lime dressing, spring onion pesto pasta, and grilled cuttlefish risotto.
Although reviews seemed mixed, I genuinely loved the food.
The staff were attentive from the start and even helped us taste wine when we were deciding between a glass and a bottle.
Prawn and Octopus Confit with Lime Dressing
The small dish arrived in a surprisingly generous portion.
The lime dressing subtly enhanced the seafood without overpowering it, bringing out the natural flavors beautifully.
The perfectly grilled octopus paired wonderfully with the citrus notes, and my partner tried it in several combinations, loving every bite.
Spring Onion Pesto Pasta and Grilled Cuttlefish Risotto
The portions of the main dishes were generous and satisfying.
The spring onion pesto pasta included monkfish liver, which I recognized from a cooking show and found surprisingly delicate and well-balanced.
The cuttlefish risotto was slightly salty on its own but became perfectly balanced when paired with the tender grilled cuttlefish.
Even without meat, the flavors felt complete and deeply satisfying.
Live Jazz, Quiet Conversations, and Shared Memories
As the jazz performance began, the dim lighting and star-like ceiling lights created a cozy and photogenic atmosphere.
Outside, the Han River shimmered at night, while inside felt like a classic jazz bar.
We quietly talked, reminiscing about all the jazz bars we had visited together, and I felt comforted by how far we’d come.
Dessert to End a Perfect Anniversary Night
Just before the kitchen closed, we ordered dessert.
I chose the Grana Padano cheese ice cream with ham chips and pepper, curious about its unique flavor.
The ice cream was rich, the ham chips added a savory contrast, and even the pepper blended surprisingly well.
With our shuttle scheduled for 11:30 PM, we slowly enjoyed dessert and conversation as the restaurant grew quieter.
A Place I Return to for Romance and Music
As more guests left, the calm atmosphere and unobstructed Han River view felt even more special.
NOCT, filled with starlight and live jazz, is the place I think of when I need a touch of romance.
This anniversary dinner became a memory I truly cherish, and it’s one I’ll remember whenever I hear jazz by the river.
