A Weekend of Festivities in Gijang: Book Concerts, English Camps, and More!

A 'Book Concert' by Kim Yeo-na, a marine writer and Gijang-gun public relations ambassador, was held over two days, the 18th and 19th.
Kim introduces the sea of Gijang in her fairy tales. The conch shells used for the succulent experience were washed more than ten times, prepared by the haenyeo grandmother, the main character of her new book, 'The Clumsy Family and the Haenyeo Grandmother', who collected them from the sea of Gijang. They discussed ways to promote and protect Jwagwangcheon Stream through activities such as drawing at the Jwagwangcheon Provincial Garden. During this time, Gijang County Mayor Jeong Jong-bok made a surprise appearance and spent time communicating directly with the children participating in the book concert.
From the 18th to the 19th, a 'Gijang Family English Experience Learning' event was held in the plaza in front of Jeonggwan Children's Library (Witgol Park).
Children participating in the English Golden Bell showed their serious sides as they solved English quizzes.
A 'Creative Science Experience Learning' event was held at Witgol Park, featuring unique high-tech experiences such as 'Walking with AI Companion Dog Gijangi' and 'Gijang Fish Drone Expedition', as well as experiences tailored to the region's characteristics, such as 'Microscopic Exploration of Gijang's Pine Trees' and 'Visible Foghorns, Audible Science', which were well-received by parents and students.
This year's 'Gilnori Parade', held on the 18th, started from Jwagwangcheon Stream near Gumokjeong Park and proceeded along Jwagwangcheon Road to Central Park to minimize traffic disruption. Led by the Jeonggwan-eup flag, the parade included a traditional Korean band, honored guests, heads of organizations, children, and parents, who marched to the lively music of a traditional percussion band, holding festival banners and signs commemorating the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the county and the 10th anniversary of the upgrade of Jeonggwan-eup. Residents from Muju-gun Seolcheon-myeon Residents' Autonomy Committee, a sister city, also participated in the parade.
The 'Dalbamdalcho Festival' was held at the fountain plaza in Jeonggwan Central Park, Gijang-gun. 'Dalbamdalcho (The Moon Rabbit Invites You on a Moonlit Night)' is an experience booth created directly by teenagers. Everyone, including families, friends, and couples, enjoyed a fantastic night with the Moon Rabbit, a variety of programs, youth harmony performances, a shadow photo zone, free photo printing, and special performances by BEO and Cyberguy.
In addition, the '2025 Gijang-gun Dasimi Market' was held on the Deoksan pedestrian bridge. The 'Gijang-gun Dasimi Market' is a special flea market where social economy enterprises, youth start-ups, and women-owned businesses gather to support small business owners and promote the charm of Gijang.
On the last day, the 19th, a 'Walking Competition Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Restoration of the County' was held. Many residents and key guests attended the event, which started from Central Park and returned from Daleum Bridge.
The opening ceremony of the Sharing Flea Market and street performances were held. Watching the performers from a close distance, I could feel their excitement. Even small mistakes were seen as endearing.
At the Sharing Flea Market, individuals brought items to sell to those in need and donated a portion of the proceeds.
On the first day (17th) on the central stage, there was a performance by participants in the Gijang-gun Lifelong Learning Program (Lifelong Learning Youth Hanmadang), a golden stage unfolded. Choi Ji-ye, Ho-ryun, Lee Su-na, Hee-jeong, Na Geon-pil, and others appeared in the '10th Anniversary Commemorative Song Show of Jeonggwan-eup' and performed congratulatory performances.
On the 18th, the Dream Stage, the opening ceremony, and the Dalbamdalcho (Youth Harmony) performance in which teenagers participated followed. In particular, 10 local youth teams and invited singers Cyberguy and BEO appeared in the Dalbamdalcho performance and presented a hot stage.
On the 19th, the 1st Jwagwangcheon Provincial Garden Children's Song Festival and the Jwagwangcheon Provincial Garden Celebration Show were held, and the festival ended with congratulatory performances by Mr. Pang, Yang Ji-won, Ahn So-mi, Min Kyung, and Min Kyung-hoon along with the closing ceremony.
At this festival, the Jeonggwan-eup Development Council, including the Festival Promotion Committee, took the lead in creating a festival without garbage in order to realize a clean and eco-friendly festival. Residents were able to enjoy the festival safely thanks to the members of the Festival Promotion Committee and volunteers who worked hard in various places. Thank you all for your hard work.
