A Visit to Lee Dong-hun's Solo Exhibition: Finding Happiness in Everyday Life at MI&Gallery

I recently visited MI&Gallery in Seochon to see Lee Dong-hun's solo exhibition.
I went on the opening day, and I highly recommend checking it out if you have the time.
Lee Dong-hun expresses the happiness and joy of everyday life through a fairytale-like technique. Having loved animals and surrounding landscapes since childhood, the artist introduces 'Bruno' the goose into his works, blending him seamlessly with various scenes to create art that is easily accessible and relatable to the public.
His works radiate warmth and aim to deliver a message of hope. I encourage you to check out his latest exhibit.
Let's take a look at some of the artworks.
Before seeing this solo exhibition, it seemed I was already discovering my own artistic preferences. I'd visited the Bank Art Fair the previous weekend, and some of the pieces I liked there turned out to be by Lee Dong-hun! What's fascinating is that I knew nothing about the artist at the fair. Later, when I organized and posted photos of my favorite artworks on Instagram, his piece was selected as the lead image. While browsing Instagram, I stumbled upon the artist's account and realized it was the same artist whose work I liked at the fair. I then learned that his solo exhibition was taking place after the Bank Art Fair. Fortunately, the timing worked out, and I was able to visit on the opening day.
You can see glimpses of our everyday lives in his art. People enjoying leisure activities with loved ones, releasing stress from daily routines. Think of these scenes – cycling, conversations in the park, riding a swan boat – as being projected onto the goose within the artworks.
The exhibition is divided into two floors. The first floor mainly focuses on scenes within the forest. Walking in, it felt like I was strolling through a forest myself. The atmosphere on the first floor, filled with lush greens, felt cozy and snug. The second floor showcased more vibrant colors, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere. Here, you can find artworks depicting rivers and parks connected to the river.
The exhibition became an opportunity to set aside the busyness of daily life and heal from the wounds we've accumulated. Lastly, while viewing the pieces, it made me wish to see a full goose-centered world, where not just the goose appears inconspicuously in the paintings, but is the main focus.
* Please note that this is my personal opinion, and experiences may vary.
That concludes my review of the exhibition.
