These days, the weather has been so hot that just a short walk makes you sweat. However, I don't want to miss the unique scenery that summer brings.

When I think of summer flowers, the first thing that comes to mind is the lotus flower. Ulsan has a hidden gem filled with lotus flowers in a pond.

This gem is Taehwa Lake, located in Taehwa-dong, Jung-gu. If you prefer a leisurely trip to enjoy the colors of the season rather than flashy facilities, this is the perfect spot.

On a typical summer day, the sun was blazing, but the lush greenery surrounding the pond and forest offered a charm unique to this season. The parking space near the entrance was free, making it convenient for visitors driving there. The proximity of the trees and the pond made it a low-pressure destination for a short visit in Ulsan during summer.

Taehwa Lake is an urban oasis centered around Taehwa Reservoir, featuring gardens, an auto camping area, and walking paths. Located in Jung-gu, Ulsan, wooden decks and pavilions line the edges of the pond.

Walking along the water's edge, I could admire the lotus leaves and flowers, with clear views and great photo opportunities throughout. The deck paths are not steep, allowing for a slow stroll to appreciate the scenery.

My visit to Taehwa Lake was on July 26. Whenever the wind blew, the large lotus leaves swayed gently, revealing white lotus flowers peeking through. The sunlight made the petals shine brilliantly, and I had moments where the transparency of the leaves revealed their back sides, allowing me to fully enjoy the summer scenery of Ulsan's lotus flower spot.

During my visit, it felt like more than half of the flowers were in bloom, but there were also many spots where petals had already fallen, leaving only the seed pods. Although the state of the flowers varied within the same pond, you can still see lotus flowers for a while, but if you want to catch them in their freshest state, it's better to hurry. However, some areas lack shade, so it's advisable to visit in the morning or late afternoon rather than midday, and don't forget to bring a hat and water.

The auto camping area next to the pond can be reserved through Ulsan Jung-gu's integrated reservation system for camping facilities. For next month's reservations, there will be a priority lottery for Jung-gu residents, followed by a general lottery, with remaining spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. The general auto camping fees are 25,000 won on weekdays during the off-peak season, 30,000 won on weekends and holidays, and 35,000 won during the peak season of July and August.

Check-in is at 2 PM and check-out is at 1 PM the next day, with the facility closed on Mondays. Each site accommodates one vehicle and up to six people.

Right now, it's a hot season where anywhere you go feels warm, and staying indoors can feel stifling. In such times, a light 30-minute walk at Taehwa Lake, where you can also see summer flowers, can be a great choice.

The white lotus flowers blooming among the thick leaves and the deck paths created a calm atmosphere, quite different from the bustling city. If the sun feels too harsh, consider visiting in the late afternoon when the sun is lower for a pleasant walk and photo opportunities.

Taehwa Lake is also the sixth of the nine scenic spots selected by Ulsan Jung-gu. Although it is relatively quiet compared to famous tourist spots, in summer, the pond filled with lotus leaves and flowers makes its presence felt. Though it's not a large space, the scenery that captures the essence of the season provides plenty of reasons to visit.
