A Solo Day Trip to Chuncheon

Words and Photos © Kim Jeongni

Hello, I'm Kim Jeongni, a travel influencer.

Chuncheon is famous for its Dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken), but it's also known as the home of Gangwon-do Makguksu (buckwheat noodles).

If you're traveling solo and feel a bit awkward eating alone, and you're looking for something fun to do,

the Makguksu Experience Museum is the perfect place.

It's great for a light day trip from Chuncheon, and it's a great course for those looking for things to do in Chuncheon.

Today, based on my own experience,

I'll tell you more about the Makguksu Museum and experience as part of a day trip to Chuncheon.

Things to Do in Chuncheon for a Day Trip

Chuncheon is easily accessible from Seoul via the ITX-Cheongchun train or the Gyeongchun Line,

making it perfect for a day trip.

It's easy to go alone, and there's a lot to see and do,

so if you plan your route well, you can have a full day.

When planning a day trip,

it's common to get off at Chuncheon Station in the morning,

visit a nearby museum, and then experience something around lunchtime

or eat Gangwon-do Makguksu.

In the afternoon, it's nice to take a walk near a lake such as Uiamho Lake or Gongjicheon Stream.

I visited the museum first, had a Makguksu experience for lunch, and took a light walk around the city in the afternoon, and it was a full day.

2. Chuncheon Makguksu Experience Museum

The Chuncheon Makguksu Experience Museum is a place that truly showcases the characteristics of the Chuncheon region.

I thought it would be a stuffy museum, but it was fun and experience-oriented,

making it easy to enjoy.

When you enter the building, the first floor has a typical museum structure.

밝은 미래

It shows the history of Makguksu, where it started and how it has developed.

3. Admission & Hours

Please refer to the operating hours below:

Operating Hours: 10:00 ~ 17:00

Break Time: 11:50 ~ 12:30

Closed: Every Monday

Admission: Museum ₩1,000 / Makguksu Experience ₩5,000

The price is cheap, so you can enter without any burden.

In particular, the ingredients for the Makguksu experience may run out early,

so it's best to hurry.

It ends quickly near lunchtime.

4. Things to Do

평화로운 풍경

The exhibition is an old-fashioned style,

so it's not as fancy as modern styles, but it has a classic atmosphere with its own analog feel.

The highlight is on the second floor,

where you can make your own Makguksu.

It can be awkward to eat alone when traveling solo,

but here, you can knead the dough yourself,

pull out the buckwheat noodles, and make it right away

so it's much less awkward.

Even if you go alone, you'll naturally talk to people at the next table while experiencing it.

따뜻한 추억

When you first enter, the museum focuses on classical explanations,

so you can see the roots and history of Makguksu in order.

Buckwheat cultivation methods and old-fashioned cooking tools are also on display, which is quite interesting.

The 1st floor exhibit is truly ‘classic’.

The decorations aren't fancy, but you can feel the unique atmosphere of the old exhibition hall.

And when you go up to the 2nd floor,

you'll find a full-fledged experience space.

The process of receiving guidance, touching the buckwheat dough,

and pulling the noodles with a noodle frame is more fun than I thought.

매력적인 사진

After finishing the experience, you can eat the Makguksu you made with your own hands,

which is the real treat.

It's not awkward even if you're alone,

and I felt proud of myself because I was able to concentrate on it.

The great thing is that you can not only look around the museum, but also make and eat it yourself.

평화로운 풍경

If you're considering a day trip to Chuncheon,

the Makguksu Experience Museum is a great choice.

The museum itself has a classic atmosphere where you can learn about the history of Makguksu,

and you can even make and eat it yourself on the 2nd floor,

so it's not boring even if you go alone.

Besides, the price is reasonable,

and it's a perfect course for a day trip,

so it's good to combine it with other attractions.

5. Conclusion

환상적인 장면

The Makguksu Museum, which I recommend as a day trip to Chuncheon, is a great place to visit in the morning to tour the museum,

and if you experience it before lunchtime, you can enjoy it fully,

and in the afternoon, you can have a full day even if you're alone if you add a lake or downtown area to your Chuncheon day trip.

For those who are uncomfortable eating alone,

this is a place where you can solve it deliciously through experience,

so if you're planning a trip to Chuncheon, be sure to include it.

Have a nice trip :)
