A Scientific Journey with Kids: Yeongju Soybean World Science Museum

A Scientific Journey with Kids
Yeongju Soybean World Science Museum
Located in Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, the Soybean World Science Museum is Korea's only science museum dedicated to soybeans, where you can learn and experience everything about them.
Ample parking is available free of charge. Inside, you'll find a cafe, rest area, restaurant, and souvenir shop, making it convenient for families.
The museum is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, and closed every Monday. Admission is free.
Upon entering the exhibition hall, you'll find a space for hands-on programs.
Children can participate in hands-on activities such as stamping with soybeans and making tofu.
The combination of scientific principles and cooking makes for an educational experience.
The science museum consists of a total of five exhibition halls.
Each exhibition hall is diversely themed, from the history of soybeans to future science.
There are many interactive spaces where children can naturally learn scientific principles and enjoyably observe, maintaining high levels of engagement.
Inside the Soybean World Science Museum, which explores history and culture, you can see the origin and spread of soybeans, the history of soybeans around the world, and traditional food culture.
Various countries' soybean dishes are displayed on the walls, and old farming tools and soybean-shaped sculptures are fascinating.
There is also an exhibition hall where children can directly see and touch various soybeans, allowing them to get closer to soybeans.
Overall, the Soybean World Science Museum is designed to cater to children's interests, making it feel less like a rigid science museum and more like a 'fun learning play-based science museum'.
In the 'Soybean Growth and Ecological Environment' section, you can observe the process of soybeans sprouting and growing as if it were an experiment.
My child especially enjoyed the exhibition where they could directly see soybeans growing in a transparent container.
The variety of soybeans and their display according to their growth stage made them exclaim, "Are these all soybeans?" in amazement.
In the 3rd Exhibition Hall, 'Transforming Soybeans,' you can learn about the transformation process of soybeans in the foods we eat, such as tofu, soybean paste, and soy milk, through videos and hands-on experiences.
The 4th Exhibition Hall, 'Soybeans Saving Lives,' covers the nutritional components and health benefits of soybeans.
The 5th Exhibition Hall, 'Soybeans Illuminating the Future,' showcases the expansion of soybeans into future science, such as eco-friendly materials and soybean bio-technology, and there are also spaces for direct experience.
The Soybean World Science Museum not only has exhibition halls but also an indoor playroom.
Outside, there is a large sand playground and a table tennis area, so my child, who had been running around exploring, ended up playing table tennis with friends and having a great time.
A space where learning and play coexist, the Yeongju Soybean World Science Museum was a great science experience trip to take with children.
