A Science Playground Perfect for Kids

[By Journalist Choi Jun-hyuk]
From resource recycling to driving experiences and playgrounds,
A science playground perfectly suited for children.
During the hot summer days, weekends often lead to more indecision about where to take the kids. Outdoor activities can be challenging due to the heat, and staying at home can feel unsatisfying. However, I discovered a place in Gwangmyeong where children can engage with science in a fun and cool indoor environment.
Entrance of the Gwangmyeong City Early Childhood Science Experience Center
The Gwangmyeong City Early Childhood Science Experience Center is an indoor space where young children and their families can experience science as play. While science may often be perceived as difficult and rigid, this center allows children to naturally encounter scientific principles through hands-on activities.
Indoor exhibition area
As a family with multiple children, we were able to receive a discount on admission fees. While not all facilities are free, the entrance fee is reasonable: 2,000 KRW for children under 7 and 4,000 KRW for those over 8. If you qualify for discounts as a family with multiple children, social vulnerable groups, or national merit recipients, be sure to bring the necessary documentation.
Energy-saving experience area
The experiences here are well-suited to the eye level of young children. Instead of difficult explanations, kids can quickly engage and concentrate by pressing buttons, moving handles, and practicing waste separation.
Indoor playground perfect for running around
The indoor playground was a favorite spot for the kids. While science experiences can sometimes be a bit dull for younger children, this center includes a playground where they can move and play intermittently.
Space for running competitions
The kids enjoyed repeating the running competition experience several times. They could choose their preferred mode of transportation and run quickly along the rails, making it a great fit for active children.
Although it is a science-themed indoor experience space, there are areas for physical activity, allowing the kids to enjoy their time without getting bored for a full two hours.
Children focused while piloting an airplane
The center also offers experiences related to drones and airplanes. From feeling the excitement of piloting an airplane to moving a drone up and down, the activities captivated the children.
Space for train driving experiences
In addition to airplanes, there were also train driving experiences. For children who love rides, the immersive experience of driving is highly engaging.
Children experiencing AI autonomous driving
The autonomous driving experience involved riding in a car driven by AI, allowing kids to learn how the car moves. While this future technology might seem unfamiliar to them, they embraced it as play while observing the movements on the screen.
For parents, it was fascinating to see the children experiencing future transportation technologies they will encounter as they grow up.
The Gwangmyeong City Early Childhood Science Experience Center is an indoor space that creatively presents scientific concepts from environmental issues to future transportation at a level suitable for children. With many easy experiences, it is a great place to visit with young children, and the fact that they can participate actively is a significant advantage.
If you are looking for a place to spend quality time indoors with your kids during the hot summer or on rainy days, consider visiting the Gwangmyeong City Early Childhood Science Experience Center!
