A Perfect Day Out: The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon - Children's Museum

The Children's Museum at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) in Gwacheon is just perfect for kids!
I recently visited the Children's Museum! I saw on a map that the entrance fee was ₩3,000, which I thought was already a great deal. But when I arrived, I found out that the Children's Museum is actually FREE! What an amazing surprise! I had to share this awesome tip on my blog right away! Highly recommend!
The MMCA Gwacheon is located at the foot of Cheonggyesan Mountain, and the air feels so fresh! If you're looking for a healing spot in the city, this is the place to be. The museum itself feels like it's in a beautiful forest. Kids can run around in nature, and parents can take a breather. It's a win-win!
The interior of the Children's Museum is designed with kids in mind. The exhibitions are so well-done. Modern art can seem difficult and rigid, but here, it's presented in a way that children can easily understand and enjoy. The paintings seem to move, the colors are beautiful, and it's a truly immersive experience for all the senses. It definitely captivates the kids' attention!
What I loved most was that there are many activities for children to participate in. My child especially enjoyed making cone hats and creating imaginary animals. It was so rewarding to see my child focused and having fun!
The museum interior is also very clean and pleasant. However, outside food is not allowed. Usually, I always bring snacks for my kids, so this was a bit disappointing. On the other hand, it helps maintain a pleasant viewing environment. Just be mindful that if kids scream or run around, it can be disruptive to other visitors. Let's all be considerate and practice good etiquette!
The only place to eat inside the museum is 'Lounge D,' and it's a great place with a great atmosphere! They serve Western dishes like pizza, pasta, and risotto. The terrace seating is very popular. If the weather is nice, I highly recommend eating on the terrace! The view is amazing. Expect a wait during weekend lunch hours, so try to go early. Also, it's self-service, so it takes a while for the food to come out.
Even ordering a cup of coffee requires a long wait.
It's not because there are many people.
It's just that the staff are very slow (whispering).
They take one order and spend a long time making it,
Then they take another order ^^^^^^^
If you're in the mood for Korean food instead of Western, there's a great gamjatang (pork bone stew) restaurant near the museum called 'Pujimhan Kimchi Gamjatang.' Their signature dish is kimchi gamjatang, which includes a whole half head of aged kimchi. It's sure to make your mouth water! It's a great choice for a chilly day when you're craving a hot soup!
Also, if you have a sweet tooth, check out 'Haidona,' a donut shop! They have many cute donuts, and kids can even participate in donut-making workshops. My child is already planning our next visit there! They have special donuts during the Christmas season, and the cafe interior is colorful and pretty. It's also close to Seoul Land and Seoul Grand Park, so you can combine it with a trip there!
The Children's Museum at the MMCA Gwacheon is the perfect place to see art exhibitions, relax in nature, and spend quality time with your child! Plus, the free admission makes it an affordable outing. It's a cost-effective parenting choice! I highly recommend it for a weekend trip. You won't regret going with your kids! Definitely give it a try! ❤️
