A Memorable Visit to Suwon Starfield

It had been a while since I visited Suwon Starfield with my husband.
We had dinner at a Japanese home-style restaurant called Hoho, primarily because I wanted to try the sea urchin pasta again, which I had enjoyed in Ikseondong Hanok Village.
The sea urchin pasta had shown me the true value of oil pasta.
However, since menus can differ slightly by location, we decided to check the menu first.
Fortunately, Hoho at Suwon Starfield also had sea urchin pasta, and we selected our menu while waiting for our table.
Located on the second floor of the gourmet street, Hoho is surrounded by other restaurants and cafes.
Unlike Ikseondong, it lacks a secluded atmosphere, but it compensates with the convenience of a large shopping mall.

Hours: Daily 10:00 - 21:50
Last Order: 20:40
High chairs available / Parking available
At the entrance of Hoho, the main menu, operating hours, side dishes, and drinks are well presented.
Additionally, some takeout options were kindly indicated.
Unfortunately, the sea urchin pasta I wanted was not included in the best menu for two, but that was fine.
After all, we had come all the way to Starfield, so we should eat what we wanted!
When I had the sea urchin pasta in Ikseondong, it was so chewy and delicious that I chose the same dish at Suwon Starfield, but I also noticed that the omelet rice looked appetizing.
Even though I’m not a fan of sake don, since it’s a best menu item, I thought I should come back with my daughter, who loves it.
Actually, if the whole family comes, it will be included in the best three-person set, so we should plan to come together later. I’m not sure if my daughter will be excited about it...
When I worked in Anyang, it was hard to come here, but since I moved closer to Uiwang Station, I find myself visiting more often.
Hwaseo Station is just two stops from Uiwang Station, so I should also try the katsu-nabe set or sukiyaki set. Yum!
Is it just me, or does merely looking at the menu in the early morning make my appetite surge?
This time, since I was visiting a restaurant at Suwon Starfield, I decided to add a twist by ordering the king shrimp tempura as a side dish.
Finally, to balance the potential greasiness of the shrimp tempura, I also ordered omija and lemonade, completing our dinner selection.
Meal Menu: Haregatsu, Sea Urchin Pasta, King Shrimp Tempura, Omija and Lemonade
After placing our order at the kiosk at our table, I went to the restroom, and by the time I returned, all the dishes were already on the table.
However, many guests wanted to take pictures of the sea urchin pasta, so the staff kindly waited to mix it until they finished taking photos. The staff at Hoho always seem to have great sensibilities!
The king shrimp tempura comes with three pieces, and I had one while my husband had two. Strangely, shrimp tempura is always delicious, yet it’s hard to eat more than one at a time.
The hirekatsu set ordered by my husband has become his go-to since he became hooked on hirekatsu at a nearby restaurant.
The omija aid was unfamiliar to me, but it was surprisingly refreshing and tasty. My husband always drinks lemonade.
Side dishes included pickles, tartar sauce, and broth. The broth at Hoho is not overly salty and warm, providing a comforting warmth on a cold day.
Unlike Ikseondong, at the Suwon Starfield restaurant, the staff took the sea urchin pasta to mix it for us. Still, the taste remained the same.
The hirekatsu was lightly pink, indicating it was fried just right to maintain a clean flavor. This method has become quite popular lately.
The king shrimp tempura was crispy and surprisingly light. However, it’s still a challenge to eat more than one. My husband was pleased that I shared mine!
Lemon is served alongside the hirekatsu and king shrimp tempura, and adding it to the tempura or cabbage salad is a delightful kick.
Its refreshing taste prevents boredom throughout the meal.
The sea urchin pasta is delicious on its own, but pairing it with pickled ginger made it less greasy and more enjoyable.
Indeed, the side dishes are designed to complement the main dish, making it a more enjoyable dining experience.
I recall hearing that consuming pickled ginger at a Japanese restaurant is beneficial for freshening breath, so I have started eating it more often since then.
Mixing wasabi into the hirekatsu sauce is not overly spicy and enhances the flavor. I often enjoy wasabi with meat, usually with salt, but this way was also quite good.
The well-mixed sea urchin pasta is nutty without any fishy taste, which is why I always crave it whenever I visit Hoho. I’m glad this menu is available in Suwon.
I’m not sure what the green vegetable mixed in the tartar sauce is, but I think it played an essential role in enhancing the flavor of the shrimp tempura.
After a delightful meal at the Suwon Starfield restaurant, we stopped by the Byeolmang Library to aid digestion. Coincidentally, a mini-concert was taking place, and many people were enjoying the soothing music.
Unlike Ikseondong, Hoho at Suwon seems to offer a much more diverse range of activities since it’s located in a large shopping mall. The vibrant Byeolmang Library and the jazz music playing inside felt like an unexpected gift.
If I visit the Suwon Starfield restaurant again, I’d like to check in advance if there are any events happening. I wonder if they’ll announce it on their website.
In any case, after walking around the Starfield, I felt good and well-digested.
