This post was written with production costs supported by the Pulmuone Museum Kimchikan Supporters program.
Struggling to find the perfect place to take your kids during summer vacation?
It's too hot outside, the kids want to have fun, and parents are searching for safe and educational options.
This summer, I visited Museum Kimchikan – a cool indoor space where you can learn, experience, and enjoy!
It's located about a 5-10 minute walk from Jongno 3-ga Station or Jonggak Station.
The walk is filled with great restaurants and things to see, so take a look around on your way!
Museum Kimchikan offers a fascinating look at the history and culture of traditional Korean kimchi.
As soon as you enter, you'll see the summer vacation event slogan: "What's the fun in playing alone at the museum?"
EVENT 1: "What's the fun in coming alone?"
Entrance fees are half price for families!
EVENT 2: "What's the fun in just looking?"
Kimchi Vibes - Experience Museum Kimchikan through music!
Receive a limited-edition summer activity sheet, solve the puzzles, and win prizes!

Museum Kimchikan is located on the 4th-6th floors.

Operating hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Here’s what the entrance looks like.
To the right of the front desk, you'll find activity sheets for children and teenagers. You can look at the exhibits and solve the problems.
It’s not just a simple viewing, you can also study.
One of the events currently underway (August 2025):
Limited Edition Summer Activity Sheet!
The activity sheets are available in English and Korean, which I thought would be great for foreign visitors.

- Stove, cupboard, cool floor
It was great that I could listen to the explanations for all of the exhibits with the QR code!
There were also places where you could try out experiences in the middle.

5th Floor Guide:
① Kimchi Road 2
The taste of Kimchi from the sound
② Kimchi Study Room
Regional Kimchi Making Video
③ The Four Seasons of Kimchi
④ Kimchi Storage
Korean Kimchi
Real Exhibit of World Pickled Vegetables
There was a space in Kimchi's Four Seasons where you can read a book or write down an activity sheet, which I liked so much.

It was also great to sit down and watch the kimchi manufacturing video that was playing on the 4th floor!
I wrote the front part of the summer activity sheet here.

If you go out towards the stairs on the 5th floor, there is a place to scan the bar code next to the elevator, and if you scan and enter here,
It's called, and you can see Korean kimchi and pickled vegetables from around the world in person.

It's very~very cool inside the refrigerator, and visually so beautiful,
I think this is the most memorable place for me.
If you hold your breath and listen, you can hear the sounds of fermentation.

6th Floor Guide:
① UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Dedication Room
World Intangible Cultural Heritage and Kimjang Culture
Modern Kimjang Scenery
Kimchi Archive
② Kimjang Maru
Cooking class
③ Kimchi Workshop
Art experience space
④ Kimchi Tasting Room

On the way up to the 6th floor,
Interesting stories about kimchi were written as murals on the wall.
I thought they made good use of the space!

When you go up to the 6th floor,
There is a tasting room and an exhibition room,
I went to the tasting room first.

It is well divided and water is prepared.
I think I was surprised one more time, saying, “Oh! Is it prepared for me to eat like this?!”

You can purchase the kimchi tasted here at the museum store on the 4th floor.

If you go into the exhibition room on the 6th floor,
Is there a space where you can color pictures like this?

I completed all of my activities here!

Here is Kimjang Maru, which is a cooking class.
I couldn't make a reservation, so I couldn't experience it.
I was so sad.
I'll definitely make a reservation and visit next time!

Finally, go back to the information desk again,
If you show the completed activity sheet and survey,

They will give you a mirror and a ticket that you can visit again next time!
(Isn't this totally great?)
A gift for studying?

And I finished my visit by looking around the gift shop ><

This summer vacation event at Museum Kimchikan
It had all three advantages: exhibition viewing tailored to children’s eye level + hands-on experience + cool indoors.
In particular, viewing the exhibition through the activity sheet left no room for boredom,
It made kimchi feel more approachable.

This summer, spend a special day learning, creating, and enjoying with your family at Museum Kimchikan!
