A Cozy Reading Space: Jiganseoga at Ulsan Museum of Art

As we welcome the New Year, many of you may have resolved to read more consistently.
I, too, started the year with a similar resolution, jotting down my goals in a diary to keep myself motivated.
I set a modest yet challenging goal of reading one book per week.
After failing to meet this goal last year due to various excuses, I was determined to change my environment this year.
Ulsan has many stylish cafes, but when it comes to finding a good spot for reading, there aren't many that come to mind.
Quiet spaces with fewer people and a relaxed atmosphere are surprisingly rare.
For this reason, I would like to recommend Jiganseoga at the Ulsan Museum of Art as a great reading cafe.
The space provides a calm environment that allows for complete focus on reading.
Jiganseoga is an open cultural space for everyone, which makes it appealing.
I was impressed by its mission to transform a dormant space into a vibrant place for rest and creativity.
The intent to bring small bursts of life to the city and comfort to the daily lives of citizens is felt throughout the space.
It is not just a cafe; it serves as a cultural hub for community interaction and collaboration.
Jiganseoga has multiple locations across the country, and Ulsan has more branches than I expected.
There are six locations in Ulsan, including Ulsan Grand Park, Jangsaengpo, Seonam Lake Park, UNIST, Ulsan Museum of Art, and Park Sang-jin Lake Park.
Being able to find a Jiganseoga branch in various parts of the city is a significant advantage.
Among them, I visited the branch at the Ulsan Museum of Art.
If you plan to visit, it's good to keep the operating hours in mind.
It is closed every Monday and open from 10 AM to 6 PM from Tuesday to Sunday.
This timing aligns well with museum visiting hours, making it convenient.
Located right in front of the museum, the accessibility is also satisfactory.
This allows you to enjoy the beautiful museum view from inside.
The space consists of two floors, with the cafe located on the second floor.
You can order drinks on the second floor and choose a comfortable spot on either floor to enjoy.
I was impressed by its independent space facing the main entrance of the museum.
It is designed as a library for artists, equipped with diverse cultural content.
The building presents a clean and organized impression from the outside, naturally drawing you in.
After exploring the museum, it felt like a perfect spot to relax and read.
The Ulsan Museum of Art branch has a clear identity as a library for artists.
It embodies a vision for a 21st-century, technology-based, integrated art museum.
The theme of this space is described as 'beauty.'
It encourages discovering beauty not only in art but also in perspectives towards oneself and the world.
On the first floor, the layout features recommended books by notable figures, creating a serene atmosphere with themes of harmony and reflection.
There is also a dedicated space called 'Words of Artists' that invites leisurely browsing.
The restroom is conveniently located on the first floor for easy access.
The second floor features thematic spaces titled 'Sublime' and 'Aspiration,' along with a bookshelf focused on 'Dreams of Artists.'
The cafe area seamlessly connects to these spaces, and there is also a restroom on the second floor.
In the center of the first floor, there is a space called 'Essential Copying,' where you can write down memorable sentences from the books you read.
Taking a moment to jot down thoughts left a deeper impression than I expected.
It truly resonated with the idea that copying helps you understand the text more slowly and profoundly.
Browsing through the displayed books was quite enjoyable.
Seeing familiar classics like 'Animal Farm' was heartwarming.
At the same time, there were many new titles that piqued my curiosity.
Even the time spent pondering which book to choose was delightful.
After ordering my drink on the second floor, I settled into a relatively quiet spot on the first floor.
The spacious environment alleviated any pressure about finding a seat.
I carefully opened the book I chose, feeling finally ready to concentrate on my reading.
The cafe offers a solid selection of basic coffee and beverage options.
Alongside drinks, a variety of pastries are available, providing a wide range of choices.
It seems perfect for a light snack while reading.
The combination of books, coffee, and pastries creates a harmonious atmosphere.
I selected a book titled 'I Will Continue to Tell Small Stories.'
It contained the emotions of everyday life rather than grand messages.
The tranquil content matched the space well, allowing me to focus.
It was easy to turn the pages without feeling pressured.
The overall atmosphere of the space felt tidy yet warm.
Thanks to the glass structure, natural light fills the room, creating a bright and stable impression.
Despite the cold weather outside, warm sunlight filled the interior.
I felt it was an ideal environment for quietly reading.
Diverse books related to art and themes of heart and rest are available.
No matter your interests, you are likely to find at least one book that catches your eye.
It’s also appealing that you can receive book recommendations along with your coffee.
If you are looking for a great cafe to read in Ulsan, I highly recommend spending some tranquil time at Jiganseoga at the Ulsan Museum of Art.
