The Ulsan Library is hosting the 2026 Ulsan Outdoor Library Picnic, combining the beauty of Ulsan's nature with the joy of reading, allowing visitors to enjoy books, culture, and relaxation.
This year, the event is taking place at Soldo in Dong-gu, Ulsan.
The theme of the event, 'Ulsan, Dive into Reading (슬독)', reflects the meanings of reading, slow reading, and wise reading.

Event Schedule: September 19, 2026 - October 18, 2026, every Saturday and Sunday (10 sessions in total)
Location: Soldo Art Area (Inside Soldo, Bang-eo-dong, Dong-gu, Ulsan)
On the first day of the event, despite the cloudy weather, many people visited Soldo.
At the first bookshelf, the Suldok Bookshelf, you can find a variety of books, including art and picture books.
There is also an information zone where you can receive pamphlets and a stamp tour paper.
The stamp tour starts from the information booth and goes through the Yunsul Bookshelf, Alley Zone, Cafe Bookshelf, and Soldo Art. Visitors can collect stamps by exploring five spaces where the Suldok Picnic takes place.
Those who complete the tour will have the chance to participate in a keycap-making experience, limited to the first 100 visitors each day.
I arrived shortly after the event started at 2 PM, and the 100 slots were already full. If you want to participate in the stamp tour, make sure to arrive early!
As expected from an outdoor library, there are plenty of spaces to read books among the bookshelves. The main bookshelf at Soldo Art features books related to healing, nature, AI, family, and Ulsan.
There are square openings between the bookshelves that frame views of the Soldo sea, resembling a picturesque scene. The open space allows the gentle sound of waves to be heard.
Seating on the tiered stands allows for reading while enjoying the sea view, providing a perfect opportunity to relax with a book.
The Yunsul Bookshelf is located on the way to the Bangojin Breakwater.
With cushions and wooden tables set up, visitors can comfortably sit and watch the waves right in front. Although the weather was cloudy, I imagine that on clear days, the shimmering waves will be as beautiful as the bookshelf's name suggests.
Another attraction includes busking performances and book talks, taking place at the outdoor plaza of Soldo Art, called Sorimaru, and the rooftop emotional space.
Pre-registered participants will have the opportunity to attend Suldok book talks, music readings, and even a starlight docent event on starry nights, so be sure to register in advance.
On the first floor of Soldo Art, visitors can experience VR ART. The video 'Monet, Obsession with Water Lilies' can be viewed through VR gear.
For other experiences, I visited a booth next to Soldo Art. You can see the line for the activities, right?
Using the AI Draw Me Bot, you can have your photo drawn, and you can even play Go with a robot. Additionally, you can create bookmarks and take black-and-white photos to commemorate the day.
Playing Go with the AI robot was particularly fascinating. Anyone can participate for free, making it a popular experience!
Soldo is home to many cafes. There's a bookshelf in the cafes, allowing visitors to read while enjoying their drinks.
Each cafe features books on different themes, adding to the fun of choosing where to go. The information pamphlet includes a map and details about the books available at each cafe.
The 2026 Ulsan Outdoor Library Picnic at Soldo offers a relaxing way to enjoy reading alongside the natural beauty of the sea.
