Fortnite: More Than Just a Battle Royale – A Fresh Look at Classic and Creative Modes

Hello,
I'm Park Han-ryang, an influencer.
I used to think of Fortnite as just another battle royale game, but my recent experience has been surprisingly refreshing. With the addition of diverse UEFN-based maps and modes, it now feels more like a ‘game creation platform.’ Today, I’m sharing my review after playing both the classic Battle Royale mode and the fast-paced Team Rumble (Reload) mode.
Don the Cape of Superman in Fortnite Battle Royale!
First, let's talk about the Battle Royale mode, the very symbol of Fortnite. It's the familiar setup where 100 players drop onto an island and fight until only one remains. The tension immediately rises when choosing a landing spot. This time, I played it safe by landing on the edge, looting items to start. After gathering weapons, armor, and building resources, I noticed the player count quickly dwindling. That's when I started to focus and hunker down.
The beauty of Battle Royale lies in its strategic freedom. This time, I adopted a 'survivalist' strategy, avoiding early engagements, gathering items, and fighting the remaining players later in the game. I enjoyed using the terrain to my advantage, hiding in the forest and ambushing unsuspecting opponents.
It struck me again how Fortnite revolutionized the battle royale genre with its detailed map, strategic cover placement, and seamless building system. Although I'm not yet proficient at building, I could still compete effectively by leveraging the existing terrain and buildings. It's appealing because beginners can have fun, and experienced players can engage in more spectacular battles.
Personally, I find Fortnite's looting system to be more intuitive and easier than other battle royale games. So, for beginners, I recommend playing in squads rather than solo. Other players can help you in tough situations, and you can have much more fun playing together, which I think is one of the game's appeals.
Superman has finally landed on the Fortnite island! Starting July 11, 2025 (Eastern Time), Superman officially appeared in Battle Royale to assist rookie heroes confronting Daigo. Intense battles ensue in Battle Royale and Build Zero matches to claim the 'Superman Calling Crystal,' a special item that randomly appears. The first player to find the crystal gains Superman's powers and iconic red cape, becoming the island's hero.
Upon obtaining the crystal, players can unleash Superman's formidable abilities, including superhuman strength, defense, high-speed dashes, powerful melee attacks, and aerial mobility. Players fight fiercely to target bosses and energy cores, approaching the red-glowing crystal. Amid the focused attention of all enemies, enjoy the exhilarating feeling of Superman dominating the island, and have fun defeating the hero with your party members.
Be sure to get the Superman outfit as a Battle Pass reward!
Next, I tried the Team Rumble (Reload) mode, where quick combat is key. Unlike the tension of Battle Royale, Reload offers much faster-paced battles. You join as a team of four, and even if you die, you can respawn thanks to your teammates, allowing you to fight aggressively at every moment. The key is increasing the amount of kills in a limited time, thanks to this the battles are continuous and the concentration is very important.

Teamwork is crucial in Reload. My team initially scattered and suffered several defeats. Then, starting mid-game, we coordinated our cover and positions, transitioning to cooperative play. One time, I was downed by an enemy, but my teammate quickly revived me, and we charged together and took down the enemy – it felt like a scene from a movie! If Battle Royale is a solo survival experience, Reload is a mode that captures the fun of traditional team shooting games.

Personally, I really liked the fast pace and respawn system of Reload. In Battle Royale, it can be frustrating to die and be eliminated immediately, but in Reload, you can keep respawning, which reduces stress and encourages more aggressive play. The tension of frantically racking up kills with your teammates in the last minute was a different kind of fun compared to Battle Royale.

After playing these two modes, I realized once again that Fortnite's strength lies in its ability to accommodate various play styles. You can enjoy solo survival or focus on rapidly accumulating kills with a team. Both have distinct appeals, and the ability to choose according to your preference is a strength. For me, I'd choose Reload when playing with friends and Battle Royale when I want to feel that heart-pounding tension alone.

Personally, the moment of reloading is surprisingly thrilling and fun.

And the UEFN-based creative maps I encountered during gameplay were also impressive. In addition to the basic modes, Fortnite has an endless supply of user-created maps, which is amazing. From role-playing-focused maps like 'Brookhaven RP' to puzzle-like maps like 'Infinity Tower Tycoon' and 'Color Switch,' the creators have made maps with very high quality. I briefly tried the 'Lucky Block Bed Wars' map, and the way you fight with random items was really fresh and fun.

In conclusion, I think that Fortnite is not just a shooting game, but a creative platform with infinite possibilities through UEFN. The basic modes are fun enough, but by exploring the various maps created with UEFN, I could get the feeling of playing a new game every time. I want to continue exploring other modes and maps in the future. I highly recommend that you take this opportunity to experience the many charms of Fortnite.
