Yujin Jjimdak: A Surprisingly Delicious Blue Ribbon Restaurant in Andong's Jjimdak Alley

Yujin Jjimdak: The most famous Blue Ribbon restaurant in Andong's Jjimdak Alley.
To be honest, I didn't have high expectations for restaurants in touristy areas.
Even my sibling, who lived in Andong, said that Andong Jjimdak (braised chicken) was famous only for its name, and the taste wasn't anything special.
Still, I thought, 'Let's try it as a souvenir since we're here!' And wow...
It was so delicious, and the portion was so generous that I packed the leftovers all the way back to Daegu and mixed it with rice until the plate was clean!
Even after that, I kept thinking about it! ㅠㅠㅠㅠ That's why I'm writing this review!
In my previous post, I reviewed my Andong downtown tour!
You know how you get hungry when you drink...?
After the tasting event, my boyfriend and I were both so hungry ㅋㅋㅋ
So, since Jjimdak Alley was nearby, we visited!

As you can see, it's all Jjimdak restaurants...
There are signs of TV appearances and celebrity visits...
Don't you wonder where to go...?
After searching, we decided to go to either Yujin Jjimdak or Shinsegye Jjimdak, which were said to be the most famous!
Yujin Jjimdak caught my eye first.

It was around 8 PM, and the place was packed, so we had to wait about 10 minutes.
I was a bit surprised that we had to wait even though it wasn't peak dinner time.
It seemed like they weren't using the second floor... It looked like an attic, which was interesting, and it had a strong local restaurant vibe!
Jjimdak... is expensive, right...? 🤔
But the portion was really, really huge.

We could pack up the leftover Jjimdak, and the amount was enough for two people to eat until they were full, pack it up, and eat it again at home!
You can use tongs to serve yourself onto a plate, so there are fewer hygiene concerns!
A rather simple table setting.
And a huge Jjimdak... a whole chicken!

I was so busy eating that I couldn't take detailed pictures, but it was full of glass noodles, big potatoes, carrots, chili peppers, and green onions...
(They say they'll add more glass noodles if you tell them in advance!)
Those are all the ingredients you can see.
You might think it's just ordinary, but after a bite or two...
You lose yourself in the flavor and don't even realize you're eating so much.

It's savory, spicy, and sweet, but not overwhelming...
I ate it in a trance.
You might think it's ordinary, but other Jjimdak restaurants don't seem to be able to replicate this simple flavor.
I realized there's a reason why it's called Andong Jjimdak!
I once went to a grilled fish and ssambap (rice and wraps) restaurant run by a master chef, and I ate like crazy. That was the same feeling!

It seems like a simple dish with ordinary ingredients and a simple flavor, but it's a taste that not everyone can create!
My boyfriend, who usually eats anything and doesn't notice taste differences, even said that the Jjimdak was really delicious and that he would want to eat it again next time!
I was half-expecting it to be disappointing because there were quite a few reviews that said it wasn't that good, but we enjoyed it so much!
I haven't been to other restaurants in Jjimdak Alley, but I highly recommend Yujin Jjimdak!
