Warm Memories and Delicious Bites at Yeonnam Jumak 1987, a Hongdae Hotspot

I heard that Yeonnam Jumak 1987 is quite a popular spot, even among the many great restaurants in Hongdae.
So, I quickly headed over there with a friend, and just like the rumors said, the atmosphere was both calm and lively! The brick interior and carefully chosen lighting gave it a real vintage vibe, and it was even more vivid than in the photos, so I couldn't help but snap a few pictures.
It felt like a refreshing break, even on a hot day. It definitely deserves its reputation as a top Hongdae restaurant.
The drinks and food exceeded all expectations. It was definitely a choice I didn't regret!
1. Drinks and Food from the Heart of Hongdae
As expected of a 'jumak' (Korean traditional pub), the drink selection is diverse. Soju, beer, even sake? Or maybe it was traditional makgeolli (Korean rice wine).
The atmosphere is perfect for enjoying a drink. The staff are efficient and attentive, so the food comes out quickly, and time flies by.
The food menu is also better than expected, and I especially recommend the seafood pancake (haemul pajeon). The crispy texture combined with the moist seafood was fantastic!
Then there's the jokbal (braised pig's feet), which isn't spicy but savory, making the drinks flow smoothly. This place is definitely a great place to enjoy drinks without worries.
2. A Clean Space with a Naturally Social Atmosphere
The space is quite large and impeccably clean. The retro-style tables and chairs create a vibe reminiscent of an old marketplace, but with a sophisticated touch.
Simple drawings and some photos adorn the walls, creating perfect photo zones. It's the ideal place to chat with friends in a relaxed way.
The space isn't too crowded but still lively, creating a natural flow. It's not too quiet, which is perfect.
It's a sort of informal comfort that allows you to relax and unwind.
3. Fulfilling Both Your Stomach and Your Soul with Generous Portions
The menu here is truly inspired. A must-try is the dropwort (minari) salad with salted pollock roe (myeongranjeot).
I don't know if it's always like that, but eating them together creates an incredibly fresh combination. And of course, they even grill samgyeopsal (pork belly)!
The samgyeopsal grilled on what looks like a hearth is incredibly delicious! It's the kind of taste that makes you want to order it again and again.
The side dishes are also prepared neatly and feel carefully made.
They seem to have everything you could want. It feels like you've struck gold! Rice is unlimited, and it's the perfect place to fill your belly before chatting.
I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious and atmospheric pub in Hongdae! It's clean and comfortable, making conversations with friends even richer, and enjoying a drink is pure happiness.
I wholeheartedly recommend Yeonnam Jumak 1987! If you're looking for a great restaurant in Hongdae, don't miss this place.
It's a great place to stop time and just relax. Honestly, with this atmosphere, it's a place you'll want to visit again.
You won't be disappointed!
