Wakoan Izakaya: A Taste of Japan in Daegu's Beomeo-dong

Hello everyone! Today, I visited 'Wakoan Izakaya', a renowned izakaya in Beomeo-dong.
This place is a fusion Japanese izakaya, and I heard that the seasonal menu changes frequently.
That's why I was eagerly awaiting the reservation date!
From other blog reviews, Wakoan seemed like the epitome of luxury.
We were really excited about having a date in a nice atmosphere after a long time.
Now, let me introduce you to Wakoan in Beomeo-dong! A perfect place for a date!

Wakoan Izakaya was easy to find, located next to the KBS Broadcasting Station and across from Daegu Bank.
It was also very convenient to visit by public transportation, as it's a 5-minute walk from Suseong-gu Office Station Exit 2.
The exterior of the restaurant felt like a Japanese izakaya brought straight from Japan.
The white-toned exterior with traditional wooden doors created a luxurious yet cozy atmosphere.
From the moment you step into the restaurant, you can feel the Japanese vibe.
The stepping stones on the gravel and the wooden lattice doors created an atmosphere like being in a small izakaya in Kyoto. Haha.
I usually experience Japanese izakayas through YouTube, but this place seemed to have captured that feeling perfectly.
The interior of the store was decorated with Japanese-style decorations and soft lighting, which created a luxurious atmosphere as soon as I entered.

The seating arrangement was also very pleasing. First of all, there was a bar-style seating area by the window where you could sit and eat while looking outside.
Also, on the right, as you can see in the picture, there was a separate room space where you could enjoy yourself privately, making it perfect for gatherings or dates.
This is what the room space looks like.
It's a space clearly separated from the hall, so it would be really good for family gatherings, formal meetings between families, and private gatherings.
The group room can accommodate up to 14 people, so if you're looking for a place for a group dinner in Suseong-gu, I recommend this place!
The hall tables are also in private spaces, so it's perfect for enjoying an intimate time for blind dates, dates, or couples.
For those who are conscious of the attention of others when going on a date or blind date,
it's an even more attractive space because it's a space where you can comfortably have a conversation.
It's a great place to visit when you want to create a certain mood!
There's also an open table space in front of the kitchen, so you can choose a seat according to your taste.
Window seats, private rooms, halls, and even open spaces!
Thanks to the various seating structures, it was a place that could meet the needs of all customers.
Even the restroom was decorated with a sense of style.
There were separate restrooms for men and women, and they were very clean.
They also had hair ties and mouthwash, which impressed me with the owner's consideration!

For those of you who are as curious as I am, I'll explain what Wakoan means~
Wakoan (和幸庵): A comfortable house that brings harmony, peace, and happiness.
(Wa): Harmony, peace
(Ko): Happiness, luck
(An): Meaning a comfortable and cozy place.
It means that they wish for the happiness and luck of everyone who comes to Wakoan. Hehe.
Now that I know the meaning, I can see that they decorated the store well to match the meaning.
Dundung and I don't drink alcohol, so we visited for an early dinner,
but I heard that they have launched a limited dinner menu for early dinner customers like us.
You don't necessarily have to drink alcohol at an izakaya,
so it was good for a light dinner.
There were more options than I expected!
Limited Dinner Menu
✔️ Can only be ordered by customers who visit before 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
✔️ For those who are concerned about the price range
✔️ There are also student menus / value set menus prepared, so it was good to enjoy without burden.
Ramen
Eel rice bowl
Jumbo Karaage Don
Chashu Don
Negitoro Don
Uni Negitoro Don
Mulhoe (Cold Raw Fish Soup) etc.
It was a great place to have a light dinner or to enjoy a special menu :)

There's also a variety of late-night or light second-round menus,
so it's perfect for enjoying the first round elsewhere and visiting the second round to create an atmosphere.
They also had a variety of alcoholic beverages, including highballs, beer, soju, and sake.
And
Corkage is free for 1 bottle (only for alcoholic beverages not available in the store).
High-quality wine glasses and champagne glasses are available,
so if you have a special drink with a precious person while chatting, it will be a really happy day.
We ordered:
✔️ Simple Value Menu: Ramen (mild)
✔️ Simple Value Menu: Chashu Don
✔️ High-end Date Dinner Menu:
Eel Rice Bowl (Hitsumabushi) + Ochazuke Meal (cold)
For basic side dishes, they prepared pickled cabbage and pickled mushrooms.
The sauce was refreshing and salty, so it went really well with the raw cabbage.
Besides, cabbage is good for digestion, right?
So I kept reaching for it in the middle of the meal. Hehe.
With the crispy texture and the sweet and sour taste, it really stimulated my appetite!
Various pickles and smoked danmuji (pickled radish) came out.
Smoked danmuji is said to be danmuji that has undergone a smoking process to add a subtle smoky flavor and a deep flavor.
It is characterized by a flavor beyond just a sweet and sour taste, with a smoky flavor that makes it a good snack with alcohol.
It was more chewy than the existing crispy danmuji,
but it was really delicious.

A generous table was set.
As soon as I saw the food served neatly in luxurious dishes, it stimulated my appetite.
I thought, 'I have to take a picture of this.'
They say you eat food with your eyes first.
At first glance, the appetizing visuals made me move my chopsticks.
This is a Chashu Don (pork rice bowl) with plenty of Chashu.
The chashu was lightly scorched on the outside with a smoky flavor, but it was soft and moist on the inside.
The soy sauce-based sauce soaked into each grain of rice,
and the balance of salty and sweet taste was really amazing.
The seasoned rice was so delicious.

Put a piece of chashu on top of the rice, and then add pickled ginger and eat it in one bite... Ah, that happy taste!
The rich broth harmoniously combined the aroma of meat and the umami of seaweed,
and the umami exploded the moment I took a spoonful.
The noodles were cooked perfectly, and when eaten with the soup,
the savory and savory taste that filled my mouth was really the best.
The eel rice bowl had thick eel meat on top of the rice,
and it was so soft that it melted in my mouth.
The subtle smoky flavor of the eel was attractive.
The sweet soy sauce seasoning soaked well into each grain of rice,
and it created a luxurious flavor by harmonizing with the unique savory oiliness of the eel.
When I felt a little greasy, it was fantastic when I ate it with wasabi.

Finally, I ate Ochazuke.
You could choose between cold and hot,
but we chose cold Ochazuke to enjoy it cool.
I poured green tea over the rice left over from eating the rice bowl
and ate it together, and it was a taste that neatly cleaned my mouth, so it was perfect for finishing.
It was also really suitable for relieving the greasy feeling after eating oily food.
It's a place where you can enjoy authentic cuisine in a calm atmosphere,
so it was really good for having a drink.
If you're looking for a Beomeo-dong restaurant, I don't think there's a place as satisfying as this.
In particular, it's an overwhelming izakaya in terms of atmosphere and quality among Suseong-gu restaurants,
so if you have a blind date coming up or are worried about a date course, be sure to stop by.
Even if it's not a blind date or a date,
it's a good place to stop by when you're looking for a Beomeo-dong bar, and it's a place that's perfect for special days.
If you want to spend a relaxing time with a generous table, spend a happy time at Wakoan, known as a Suseong-gu Izakaya and Daegu Izakaya. Hehe.
