Udongdang: A Must-Try Bukkake Udon Restaurant Near Sokcho Beach (Personal Recommendation)

Gangwon-do trip, Day 1. Ready to explore all the best restaurants!
This summer, our trip will focus on Sokcho and Goseong in Gangwon-do.
We arrived at our Sokcho accommodation right at check-in time. After a quick lunch, we decided to have an early dinner and pulled up the map.
My husband had mentioned this place during our last trip to Sokcho, saying there was always a huge line. He saved it, and now we're finally here!
The name is Udongdang! Just from the name, you can tell it's an udon place. And looking at the sign, I can already tell it's going to be delicious, even before seeing the food.
You know what I mean, right?
Seeing the chairs placed at the entrance, it's clear this place always has a wait. You can smell the deliciousness! I'm getting so excited.
To the left, there are instructions and a waiting list registration machine. We arrived a little after 5 PM on a weekday, and luckily, there were tables available, so we skipped the instructions and quickly went inside. I was so relieved there was no wait!
Parking information, pet-friendly guidelines, business hours, table registration instructions, and even the menu are all posted on the wall for you to read carefully while you wait.
If there's a wait when you arrive, be sure to read everything posted here!
I didn't eat lunch properly, so I'm suddenly starving. Let's go in quickly!
This is what the inside looks like: a simple combination of wood and beige. The tables, chairs, and even the partitions all give off a Japanese restaurant vibe.
The kitchen area where they make the food is inside. The staff is always maintaining cleanliness, which makes me even more excited for the food.
Time to study the menu!
Swipe to see the menu in detail. This is a Bukkake Udon restaurant. Bukkake is a cold udon dish where you pour cold, special soy sauce broth (Tsuyu) over the noodles!
They also have hot udon, curry, pork cutlet, and a variety of side dishes, so I recommend trying a little of everything.
After ordering, we were served curry rice as a pre-meal appetizer.
It's filled with Japanese curry, and the chunks of meat are delicious. The appetizer is already so good, I'm even more excited now.
I thought we'd have to wait a long time, but our orders came out quickly.
The food came out fast, and everything came out at once, so it was perfect for taking a picture of the whole spread!

This is what I ordered!
Sweet Shrimp Bukkake - ₩13,300
It's topped with salty-sweet marinated shrimp. I have a picky eater's palate and usually don't eat raw shrimp, but since I came all the way to Sokcho, I decided to try it.
Pouring the cold Tsuyu over the noodles... *drizzling sounds*
The udon noodles are cold, along with the Tsuyu. I was worried whether the noodles would absorb the sauce properly, but if it didn't work, Bukkake wouldn't exist, right? So I was convinced! The soy sauce has a moderately sweet and rich broth base. Not too salty, not too sweet, just right!
Time for this picky eater to rate the sweet shrimp! (Very subjective, please keep that in mind)
Slightly chewy and also sticky. To me, it felt like it left a film in my mouth, but apparently that's how shrimp is supposed to taste.
Maybe it's because I've only eaten cheap shrimp so far... But the sweetness comes through, and the texture of the shrimp isn't bad!
The udon noodles are chewy and slide right down. The perfect harmony with the Tsuyu. It's a taste that everyone, young and old, will love.
Oh, and I added wasabi and lemon, so it might be good to leave those out when serving it to kids.

Next, my husband ordered:
Homemade Curry Pork Cutlet + Mini Udon - ₩12,800
The pork cutlet is crispy – no, *extra* crispy! The moment you bite through the crispy batter and into the meat, it's fluffy yet firm. So delicious!
The meat is cooked to perfection, and everything is seasoned just right. The curry is also delicious. Everything is delicious, how can that be?
Don't underestimate the mini udon that comes as a side dish. The noodles are just as good as the ones in the Bukkake Udon.
The broth is deep, rich, and not too salty. *Slurping sounds*
Doesn't it look delicious? It really was!
Look at this, isn't it amazing? The juices are dripping! You can feel the crispiness of the batter even in the photos.

Even though I'm writing this review after eating there, I can still remember the crispiness. And the moistness and perfect chewiness when you bite into it.
It was delicious dipped in the pork cutlet sauce, and also delicious soaked in the curry sauce.
I was hungry, and it was so delicious, I devoured everything in an instant. Even though I was full, I couldn't put down my spoon and chopsticks and scraped everything clean.
I should have taken a picture of the empty plates...

My personal recommendation for a Bukkake Cold Udon restaurant in Sokcho. Udongdang, thank you for the delicious meal!
Sokcho trip, not over yet! Our summer vacation in Gangwon-do has just begun! The joy of travel is eating delicious food and having fun.
