The blog owner who made a pilgrimage to Seoul this holiday just to eat tteokbokki!

Even though I've never lived in Seoul...

As someone who worked in Seoul for over 10 years...

Seoul is crowded, traffic is terrible...

It used to be the city that drained my energy, where I'd rush to escape the second I got off work, LOL.

But now that I've quit my job, why are all the best restaurants concentrated in Seoul?!?!?

Why do I miss the tteokbokki near my old office?!?!?

Oh, my contrary heart, LOL.

Whew, LOL.

It feels like it's been a while since I've been to Seoul.

Finally made my way to Gwangjang Market for the radish tteokbokki (!!) I've been craving since last year!

It's fun to be back in Seoul after a long time, LOL!

Gwangjang Market Gangga Tteokbokki

Closed every Monday

Hours: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Chewy garaetteok (rice cake sticks) + tteokbokki in a red sauce with plenty of radish.

Tteokbokki (3 pieces): ₩6,000

Fries (3 pieces): ₩6,000

Ordered.

Debated whether to order sikhye (sweet rice drink) but passed on it~

They were selling tteokbokki sauce for ₩15,000 per kg, so I briefly considered buying some...

But I think tteokbokki is best when someone else makes it.

(If I buy the sauce and make it myself, it won't taste the same ㅠ.ㅠ)

So, I passed on the tteokbokki sauce too~~

The line was long, but it moved faster than I expected.

There were tables right next to the tteokbokki line where you could eat, but you had to stand... and it was too crowded...

I didn't want to eat quickly while squeezed between people.

So, we decided to get takeout - !

Yay!

It was our turn - !

"One order of sweet pumpkin, shrimp, and fishcake fried and one order of radish tteokbokki, please!"

They put the radish next to the rice cakes and sauce in a container and mixed it well~

They gave me endless sauce and three pieces of garaetteok (cut in half).

Ooh~ Gangga Tteokbokki was special and fun to watch being made.

It definitely looked different from the tteokbokki I'm used to...

Expectations rising!!

On the way out with the takeout, I saw garaetteok and sikhye.

I don't know if they sell the garaetteok separately or if they just put it out there.

If they sell it separately...

Then you could just buy both the garaetteok and the sauce and cook it at home?!

That might be nice!

After getting tteokbokki, we moved right next door!

Gwangjang Market Chapssal Doughnuts

Closed the first Sunday of every month

Closed on Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving)

Hours: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Gwangjang Market Chapssal Doughnuts.

I didn't plan on coming here, but it's a famous doughnut place in Gwangjang Market,

and it's right next to the radish tteokbokki place, so I got in line.

A Photo of Doughnuts

The line was too long, so I hesitated for a moment,

but they were packaging the doughnuts right away,

so the line moved quickly. I recommend getting in line even if it's a little long...

As a bread lover and a glutinous rice doughnut enthusiast...

It was DELICIOUS!

Perfect for a snack! The best!

It wasn't long before it was my turn.

I also watched them make the doughnut batter~

Chapssal Doughnut: ₩1,000

Red Bean Doughnut: ₩1,500

Black Rice Chapssal Doughnut: ₩1,000

Sweet Potato Chapssal Doughnut: ₩1,500

There were a total of four kinds of doughnuts.

We ordered two of each kind,

for a total of eight doughnuts!

A Photo of Doughnuts

The red bean doughnuts were still being fried, so I waited for a bit.

Watching the doughnuts being fried!

I was happy because the oil they were frying the doughnuts in was clean.

Rolled them in cinnamon sugar and finished packing!

The greasy smell is so good~~~

On the way to Cheonggyecheon with the takeout,

My husband discovered a fresh fruit store!

They put various fruits in cups,

and if you choose the cup you want, they put it in a blender right away and grind it.

They add sugar syrup, but I'm happy because they grind the fresh fruit right away.

We went down to Cheonggyecheon right in front

and found a good spot to enjoy the tteokbokki at our leisure!!!

Gangga Tteokbokki, which I've been waiting for so long to try!!!!!

Put a lot of radish sauce on top of the rice cake and ate it all at once -!!!

The color was so red... I wondered if someone who can't handle spicy food could eat it,

but it was the perfect level of spiciness for a mild-spicy eater, with a sweet and crunchy radish combination!!!

It was special and delicious tteokbokki...

And the fries...!!!

We ordered three kinds of fried snacks: shrimp, sweet pumpkin, and fishcake

All three were crispy and plump, so they were worth the ₩6,000!

Dipping them in the tteokbokki sauce made me very happy...!

If I were to rank the fries...

1st place: Shrimp Fries / 2nd place: Sweet Pumpkin Fries / 3rd place: Fishcake Fries

I split the big piece of fishcake in half with my husband~

I already like sweet pumpkin, but

the combination of thick-sliced sweet pumpkin and tteokbokki sauce was so good.

I ate the shrimp fries right away, so I don't have a picture of them... lol

It was plump and long and really delicious.

Even though I put a lot of radish on top of the rice cake and dipped the fries in the sauce,

there was still sauce left.

Honestly, I didn't want to throw away the tteokbokki sauce.

After clearing the tteokbokki, it was time for chapssal doughnuts.

Hot and sweet sugar-coated chapssal doughnuts.

Ate the original flavor first.

They were soft and chewy

and so delicious.

It was like a Jeju green onion doughnut without the green onions, lol.

Anyway, it was delicious~~

A Photo of Doughnuts

Sweet potato chapssal doughnuts also yum yum

Chewy chapssal with soft sweet potato filling~~~

It couldn't not be delicious!!

I was getting full after eating these, so I brought the remaining doughnuts home.

We cleaned up the spot where we enjoyed our snacks at Cheonggyecheon

and took a leisurely stroll along Cheonggyecheon to help with digestion.

A Photo of Cheonggyecheon Stream

The next day, I put the remaining doughnuts in the air fryer for 5 minutes

and they were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, so delicious!

The red bean and sweet potato filling inside the chapssal was just right,

so it was a satisfying snack.

I don't know when I'll go to Seoul again... I should have bought more...
