On a day I planned to meet a friend at Suwon Station, I was craving Japanese food, so I naturally started looking for restaurants near Suwon Station. There are so many restaurants around the station, but I heard that Tonton Ton is a particularly popular restaurant near Suwon Station these days, so I headed there with anticipation. I heard it was a place with a great atmosphere and high-quality food, and after visiting, I realized it was famous for a reason.
Tonton Ton is located so close to Suwon Station (Exit 10) that I was satisfied with the accessibility as soon as I arrived. Restaurants near stations are often chaotic and crowded, but this place was well-maintained, so I liked the first impression.
The gray building with a clean white sign was eye-catching from afar, and the atmosphere subtly evoked Japanese sentiments, so many passersby were giving it attention. It's open from noon, so you can enjoy it from lunch to dinner, just keep in mind that it's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
There was ample private parking right next to the road, so there was no inconvenience in traveling by car. The spacious parking was a big plus. It's easy to get to by public transportation, but it's also convenient to drive.
As soon as I opened the door, the first thing I noticed was the long, L-shaped counter seating. It's a structure where you can watch the cooking process right in front of you, so it seems like a great place for those who like Japanese teppanyaki. The lighting and interior were also just right, not too bright or too dark, so it felt very suitable for a date.
The tables by the window at Tonton Ton had warm lighting and a view of the outside, so the atmosphere was quite relaxed. Some people were eating alone, and the seats were spacious enough to feel comfortable.
When I opened the menu, various dishes made on the iron griddle, such as okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and tonpeiyaki, were neatly listed. The prices were reasonable, so it was easy to order a variety of dishes. Just looking at the menu, I could tell that they specialize in Japanese teppanyaki.
After ordering, the table was set quickly, and I noticed that the chopsticks and utensils were neatly packaged, indicating that they were hygienically managed. Even though the turnover rate was quite fast, the place was well-organized, which made a good impression.
From the moment the chef started cooking with rhythm, placing various ingredients on the iron griddle, my eyes were drawn to it. The subtle aroma of fire and the sizzling sound of vegetables and batter cooking were very appetizing. It was fun to watch the performance, so the waiting time at the table didn't feel boring at all.
Tonton Ton's Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki is made by layering each ingredient, so it contains a lot of each ingredient, especially cabbage. It looked so full. Thanks to that, even during the cooking process, there was a subtle sweet aroma that made my mouth water even more.
The finished okonomiyaki was topped with plenty of sauce and katsuobushi, making it visually appealing. The moment I took a piece with my chopsticks, the layers of vegetables, batter, and sweet sauce harmoniously blended in my mouth, which was really attractive.
The light okonomiyaki is a version made with less oil, so it had a light and clean taste. Regular okonomiyaki can feel a bit heavy, but this menu reduces that burden, so I think women will especially like it.
Tonton Ton's tonpeiyaki is a dish with meat, so it had a richer flavor and stronger savory taste. The aroma of meat spreading while cooking on the iron griddle stimulated my appetite, and the finished visual was also thick and hearty. I felt satisfied after eating just one bite.
There was a diverse beer lineup that was good to enjoy with the menu, with Asahi and Kirin as the basics and a few more bottled beers available. The combination of teppanyaki and cold lager was perfect.
Omu-yakisoba has an egg covering, so the visual itself catches your eye once again. Inside, there was a lot of stir-fried noodles, and the softness of the egg and the savory taste of the noodles met to create a balanced taste.
The last dish I ordered, yakisoba, had a very strong sauce flavor. The savory taste of the stir-fried noodles, which are slightly pressed on the iron griddle, was alive, making me want to keep eating it. If you break the soft-boiled egg on top and mix it with the noodles, the taste becomes much softer.
Overall, it was a satisfying meal in terms of food, atmosphere, and accessibility. In particular, anyone who likes Japanese teppanyaki will definitely have their taste buds satisfied. Next time, I want to sit by the window and enjoy it again with a glass of beer. If you are looking for a different Japanese style in Suwon Station, I can definitely recommend Tonton Ton Suwon Station.
