The Dongsan Village Film Festival Experience

Hello! I am Lee Jeong-yoon, a blogger from Geochang County.
I rushed to Dongsan Village because I heard there was a film festival happening.
This year, the festival is organized by the Geochang County Community Development Support Center, after collaborating with the Geochang Village Film Festival until last year.
I headed to Dongsan Village for an evening outing on the weekend.
The sunset was approaching.
As the saying goes, 'You need to eat before enjoying the scenery,' a warm and heartfelt meal was prepared at the pop-up restaurant.
I hope the Dongsan Village Film Festival continues. Gathering once a year to share a meal and watch great films brings immense joy. I wish for Dongsan Village to communicate with the local residents and evolve positively.
Doesn't it look delicious?
I've filled my plate to the brim!
Doesn't it look appetizing?
As per the schedule, we enjoyed a mini play titled 'Dongsan Village, A Starry Night' prepared by the Arumdri Theater Company.
This simple performance about memories of Dongsan Village evoked nostalgia and warmth.
It was a mini play accompanied by guitar performances and songs, which was refreshing and delightful.
We also screened the documentary film 'Heronimo.'
During the Japanese colonial period, young Koreans who went abroad to earn money endured a hellish life and even reached Cuba. The story of Heronimo, a key figure in the Cuban revolution alongside Che Guevara and Fidel Castro, portrays the spirit of Koreans who have never set foot on their homeland for over a century.
The film was moving, making me ponder the depth of sorrow for a nation without a home.
Though some might think documentaries are boring, this film was artistically well-crafted with captivating visuals and music.
As the night deepens, so does the film's narrative.
The story of Heronimo connects to the lives of the third and fourth generations of Cuban immigrants, ultimately leading to the question, 'Who are Koreans?' I want to express my gratitude to the director for shedding light on a story that is essential yet often overlooked.
I want to remember Heronimo as a revolutionary, a patriot, and above all, a remarkable person who dreamed of freedom.
The June night film I experienced at the 2026 Dongsan Village Festival was special. It was a magical day that made the ordinary extraordinary.
I hope to see the Dongsan Village Film Festival every year.
