The Makchang's Gangnam: A 20-Year-Old Blue Ribbon Restaurant Worth Revisiting!

After a long time, I finally met up with my friends in Gangnam.
We decided to go to The Makchang's Gangnam, a place one of my friends had been wanting to try, especially since it's a Blue Ribbon-awarded restaurant.
Established in 2005, The Makchang's Gangnam has been a staple in Gangnam for 20 years. I visited with anticipation and excitement, hearing it was a renowned local favorite.
The tables and chairs have built-in storage, so you can keep your belongings safe and avoid getting them greasy. Just remember to stay sober enough to not forget them!
One of the trickiest things about eating *Gopchang* (grilled small intestines) is grilling it perfectly.
But here, a dedicated staff member grills it for you, which was incredibly convenient.

Thanks to that, we could focus on our conversation and enjoy our drinks.
As the *Makchang* (grilled pork intestines) cooked, a savory aroma filled the air. My friends immediately raved about the incredible smell and said their mouths were watering.
Taking a bite, the *Makchang* was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside – absolutely amazing!

It was the epitome of perfect *Makchang*.
There was no gamey smell whatsoever, and the *Makchang* had a surprisingly sweet and savory flavor. It was perfect.
Perhaps it was due to the fresh ingredients, but the *Makchang* wasn't tough at all. It had a delightful, bouncy texture in my mouth, which was truly impressive.

The *Gopchang* and *Daechang* (grilled large intestines) weren't greasy at all; instead, they were tender and moist.
Since there are so many customers, the ingredient turnover is probably very quick, which seems to explain the exceptional freshness.
A friend who knows his *Gopchang* said that the difference in freshness was significant.

Throughout our meal, the staff continuously grilled the *Gopchang* to prevent it from burning. Once cooked, they neatly cut it into pieces and politely explained which sauce (salt, *doenjang* (soybean paste), or *makchang* sauce) to use with each part.
Thanks to their attentive service, it truly felt like a *Gopchang* party.

The refreshing *Muk-sabal* (acorn jelly salad in cold broth) helped cleanse our palates from any potential greasiness after eating a lot of *Gopchang*, allowing us to start fresh.
We also ordered *Kimchi-mari Guksu* (cold kimchi noodle soup) because we felt like we needed some carbohydrates. We only intended to have a small taste, but we ended up finishing two bowls! (lol)

Their business hours are from 12 PM to 3 AM, so it's a great place to visit as a second stop after dinner, not just for the main course.
Plus, you can get a service if you make a reservation through Naver, so I highly recommend booking in advance.
And this place isn't just a regular restaurant; it's a 2024 Blue Ribbon-selected restaurant, one of Seoul's 'Top 10 Restaurants,' and a designated Anchor Store by Seocho-gu!

These accolades are well-deserved. There's a clear reason why it's been loved in the heart of Gangnam for 20 years.
In conclusion, it's a perfect spot for gatherings with friends, company dinners, dates, and even a second round of drinks!

We all unanimously agreed: We're definitely revisiting this place!
I highly recommend The Makchang's Gangnam!
