Why Grilled Hairtail Is a Jeju Must-Try

If you've ever visited Jeju Island, you know that one of the must-try dishes is grilled hairtail. Living here has allowed us to explore numerous places serving this delicacy, and today, I want to share our family's top choice: Galchi Bada.

Location and Nearby Attractions

Located in Aewol-eup, just a 20-minute drive from the airport, Galchi Bada is close to the famous Handam Coastal Trail, making it an ideal stop for both sightseeing and dining. After enjoying a walk along the coast, you can easily head over for a delicious meal.

On a sunny day, we decided to soak up some sun before heading to Galchi Bada. The restaurant is conveniently located right next to the walking path, ensuring easy access.

Parking Information

Parking is available in a dedicated lot behind the building, with the first hour free. After that, it’s 2,500 won for every 30 minutes. If you plan to explore the area afterward, just keep an eye on the time.

First Impressions and Atmosphere

Upon entering Galchi Bada, the stunning view of the cobalt blue Aewol sea immediately captures your attention. The ambiance is complemented by a charming stone wall interior, creating a cozy atmosphere.

 

Despite the gorgeous views, I was pleasantly surprised that the food here is equally impressive. This restaurant truly excels in serving authentic Jeju grilled hairtail.

Set Menu Details

One of the highlights is their set menu, which offers incredible value. The prices are reasonable: 79,000 won for two, 104,000 won for three, and 139,000 won for four. The set includes grilled hairtail, abalone seaweed soup, and grilled abalone, making it a hearty and satisfying meal.

Side Dishes and Self-Service Options

As soon as we ordered the two-person set, the side dishes were served. There were four simple but delicious options, allowing the main dishes to shine without overwhelming us with too many sides. If you find yourself wanting more, there’s a self-service area for extra side dishes.

Hairtail Stew Experience

The hairtail stew arrived bubbling in a stone pot, visually appealing with just the right color of seasoning. The boneless hairtail, plump octopus, and an array of vegetables made for a filling dish. The flavors were rich without being overpowering, and the hairtail was tender and moist, melting in your mouth.

Grilled Hairtail Highlights

The grilled hairtail, on the other hand, was clean and light. It was perfectly cooked, with a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior. It was devoid of any fishy taste, showcasing the freshness of the fish.

Additionally, the accompanying abalone seaweed soup was rich and flavorful, packed with generous portions of abalone. The grilled abalone was tender and sweet, making it a delightful addition to the meal.
